You know I love breaking rules, BUT there’s actually a reason for this one lol. Most woodworkers avoid edge-to-edge gluing in intarsia (and for good reason). If you use the wrong adhesive, wood movement over time can cause pulling, buckling, or the whole piece shifting, especially with inevitable backer movement. But with my work flow, it’s the lesser of two evils. I glue sections together before the final glue-up or nothing will ever line up perfectly.

The key here is using a flexible CA glue. Unlike regular CA or wood glue, it moves with the wood as it naturally expands and contracts so I’m not fighting against it long term. The real permanent bond comes from wood glue on the backer. This just gets everything locked in and aligned so I only have to get it right once.
