hy•gge (hue gah) noun: a calm comfortable time with people you love. the art of building your own cozy sanctuary. to make oneself snug. coziness of the soul.

With all the stress of the holiday season, everyone could use a little hygge! The Danish lifestyle is all about comfort and wellness, and they are some of the happiest people on earth. If you want to add some hygge to your own home, here’s what you can do:

light candles. read a book. disconnect from your phone. bake. drink something hot. get in cozy clothes. take a bath. clean your space. decorate with plants and other outdoors materials.

You asked to hear more about the story behind our pieces. Here we go!

Ahh, totally kicking ourselves that we didn't take a photo of our previous table, but we'll do our best to paint the picture for you: It was round four seat hand-me-down that had seen better days. Dark brown. Scractches everywhere. I think we only ate one or two meals there. Basically, it had became the "room chair" of our entire condo - a collector of junk mail, Amazon packages, coats, headphones, backpacks, dust...

We were getting closer to our wedding and had recently decided that the bridal party would get ready at our place (yikes!!!) How would everyone sit comfortably? Where would the makeup artist set up? Where would the MIMOSA BAR GO?! It was the motivation we needed to get the old table out and design a new table for our space. Of course, we held off on starting this project until the week of our wedding...because we didn’t have enough else going on 🤪

Here's how we decided on the style of our new table:

Rectangle Shape: We knew we wanted this table to be able to come with us wherever we go next. So, we decided on a rectangle table that would be more likely to work in a future dining room space.

Center Pedestal: Our condo is a mix of mid-century modern and modern farmhouse (farmhouse sink, butcher block counters, neutral hues, wood accents...) With our open concept space - dining, kitchen, living all in one room - we didn't want the table to take away from anything else, but compliment it. The center pedestal adds that farmhouse charm while the rectangle top brings in the more modern touch.

Stain Color: We used a light coat of special walnut

Wood: Pine
