Annual obligatory sauerkraut post...

We returned to Wagner's Market in Black Creek again and picked up 25 heads! They were huge & dense this year and we did NOT need them all.

12 heads, averaging about 14-16 lbs each made up 154 lbs of shredded cabbage that went into my vintage 15 gal + 6 gal crocks. We'll let 'er rest for several weeks and have some amazing fresh kraut soon!

We harvested and harvested and harvested until we just were so sick of each item. And what a blessing it is to have an abundant garden!

But, in all realness, y'all, we tired... lol

Time to put the garden to bed for the season. And maybe trap this dang gopher.

Did a little test run yesterday in the classroom kitchen for next week's canning class! 9 jars of wild blackberry jam are made & cooling (def cooled by now) and ready to go home with next week's participants!

Hello beautiful people! Grab your Balls (and Kerrs), IT'S CANNING SEASON!

My favorite season! (I feel like I probs say that about every season.) We began by picking beans, chard, tomatoes & some peperoncinis.

If you come and visit any time between now and when sauerkraut is done (late Oct - early Nov), my kitchen will be a disaster and there will be canning supplies and various stages of produce everywhere. I will not apologize & I love every second of it 🙃

I never tire of this view.

Checked the hives late last week. Been a rough beek summer for us for a variety of reasons.

Evidence that 2 of the 4 likely swarmed, or were about to, 1 definitely did and the last one was fine. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Just the reality for us this year. Always something to learn.

Regardless, I love having bees and this view.

I love summer-eating-from-the-garden-every-night season. Its my favorite.

There is a full honey flow going on right now. It seems like every pollinator is visiting our field and I am here for it!

I believe this is a Yellow Swallowtail butterfly. We really enjoyed watching them flit around all afternoon.
