Neat piles of precise work, sanded and resting; what a sight. Seeing your work laid out, the product of many hours of labor, is its own satisfaction. Before the stress of assembly and the final pains of finishing, it's like a breath of pause to reflect on the work you've done to get this particular wood to this particular point.


These components are for the four soon to be assembled - sides, stringers, middle supports.

Precision. It is everything in woodworking, aside from everything else, and it is a dynamic skill - not fixed or set. Thank goodness that's true - if you aren't dead flat perfect now, know that you can learn to be.

What was acceptable as precise in my practice when I began is no longer acceptable, and what I accept now will not be acceptable in the future as my skills grow.

We are fighting the wood, fighting time, fighting our patience, fighting dull tools, fighting fatigue and cost and measuring devices. And as we fight, we gain precision as only experience can teach us.

My new 60 1/2 block plane is perfect for precise flattening jobs like evening out imperfections in this subassembly. The solid brass construction gives it the perfect heft in hand for momentum without being too cumbersome. I am loving it.

Introducing the Side Table. Solid lumber floats effortlessly above hand-curved steel in a celebration of end grain. This specimen is made of solid on a white base, in a simple, smooth satin poly. Notched handles become their own design statement, and allow for this table to sidle up to your favorite chair or flank your couch on both sides. Fully customizable - lumber, steel color, height. Work in progress on the prototype side table! Been working hard on some beautiful, beefy hardwood for this piece. Nearly ready for assembly and finishing, and then right into your living room.

There she is! Assembled the main frame of the after some serious wrangling and 8 hours of louver sanding. Starting to look like herself at last. Just at around 93" tall, I can still move it myself just barely.

This signage job for is done! So pleased with how these turned out, and their logo really came to life on these. The job included custom sublimation on aluminum, laser engraving, custom stand-offs, custom metal plasma cutting, and of course woodworkibg - I needed to pull out all the trades to make these look great, and I'm so happy to see them up on the walls of their Retreat Center.
