Feeling a little nostalgic. Here’s a quick flashback to a few of our early pieces. From the desk that started it all to our favorite nightstand that now dresses up a hairdresser’s salon. We wish we’d done more video back then!! lol!

Not every furniture makeover starts with a Marketplace find. Sometimes your friend hands you a broken kindergarten stool and says, “Can you fix this?” 😂

One of the legs had broken off and taken a few chunks of wood with it. Her husband had already glued the leg back on, so it was sturdy — we just needed to figure out how to rebuild what was missing and make it safe for a classroom full of kindergarteners.

This was the perfect job for epoxy putty! We rebuilt the missing areas, shaped them, sanded everything smooth, and finished it off with a fresh coat of Dwil Paint bronze blue paint. 💙

It may not be one of our usual furniture flips, but there’s something extra satisfying about fixing something that otherwise might have ended up in the trash — especially when it has sentimental value.

Now she’s headed back to the classroom for another round of kindergarten chaos. 😂

One of the biggest things we’ve learned since we started flipping furniture is that just because we can flip something doesn’t mean we should bring it home. 😂

We get a surprising amount of our furniture for free thanks to friends, family, and people who know what we do and think of us when they (or someone they know) are getting rid of something. We also buy plenty of pieces on Marketplace, but we’ve gotten much better about setting limits on what we’re willing to pay.

These days, we try to make sure a piece gives us at least one good reason to bring it home: profit, practice, or creativity.

Sometimes it’s a great piece we know we can make money on. Sometimes it’s a free little side table that gives us a low-risk place to try a new product or technique. And sometimes we just see something and immediately have an idea for it that we’re excited to try.

Of course, all of these rules go slightly out the window when someone offers us something weird and unique for free. 😂 A roll top desk? Hexagon table? Random antique we’ve never worked on before? Yeah…we’ll probably find room.

She had good bones… and a whole lot of funk and dust. 😂

This bedroom set got the full Flippin’ Friends treatment—repairs, sanding, fresh stain, black paint, and gold hardware. Those wood tops deserved their moment! 😍

Annie, Frannie, and Fannie got a facelift, and we’re a little obsessed. 🖤 New hardware, dark paint, and a little surprise inside the drawers!

Save The Bees USA A furniture flip for a cause 🐝💛

We’ve been wanting to use one of our flips to support a cause we care about, and when we found this vintage Ethan Allen hexagon table, a bee project felt pretty much inevitable. 😂

We’re partnering with Save the Bees USA to give this little table a bee-inspired makeover, and once she’s finished, the goal is for this project to actually give something back to the organization doing the real work to protect our pollinators.

We’ll share more about what’s happening with the finished table as we get closer to the reveal, but you don’t have to wait for us to support the cause!

Water-based stain is quickly becoming our favorite way to stain furniture 🙌

For this set, we mixed Varathane Dark Walnut + Espresso to get the exact rich brown we wanted — and we LOVE how it turned out. 🤎

Faster dry time, WAY less smell, soap + water cleanup, AND not having to worry about your rags SPONTANEOUSLY COMBUSTING?! Water-based stain is making a very strong case for becoming our new go-to. 😂

The one tradeoff is that faster drying means less working time, especially on bigger surfaces. But we’ve found that lightly misting the wood with water before staining gives us more time to work with it and makes getting an even finish so much easier.

If you’ve only ever used oil-based stain, we highly recommend giving water-based stain a try!
