Bowties and Bonsai

This is aimed to be a low sitting Bonsai table, ultimately you could use it as a small coffee table too.

This was fun to put together as well as a challenge due to no flat sides or edges!

The bowties consist of Maple as well as the wedges for the legs. The table itself is Walnut picked up from .

The two round legs were turned from a reclaimed chunk of Walnut from the previous table.

This was sanded to 400 grit and finished with two coats of Polyx-oil, high solid, clear gloss.

Rough turning wet honey locust with RICH Ltd (profile in comments)! Follow along as he uses his Shopsmith as a drill press, bandsaw and lathe to create the beginnings of a beautiful bowl! We can’t wait to see the final product.🔥 More project details below: “Once it's cut to a manageable size, I switch into drill press mode and drill a spot for the live center tailstock to sit flat, and bring the blank over to the bandsaw. I use a circle jig with the bandsaw to get a roughly round blank, which is a pretty cool attachment for this bandsaw if I might say. Ultimately, balancing material for the lathe is extremely important and for that the lathe does very well with giving all the necessary components to do so. Due to the diameter of the future bowl, I found that I had to remove the universal tool rest setup in order to get things all the way to the tailstock. Although this might seem like a setback, I still managed to make a tenon and give general shape, using the normal lathe setup that is already featured on nearly all Shopsmith’s. Now that the blank is on the chuck, I reattach the universal tool rest and make quick work of the insides, but that will be for the next video.” #shopsmith #woodworkingcommunity #lathe
