Some pieces are just stubborn. And this one? She was determined to test every ounce of my patience. 😂

If you’ve been following along, you know this dresser and I have had a rather complicated relationship. I swear, every single time I touched it, something else went wrong. What should have been a fairly straightforward transformation turned into one of those projects that makes you question all your life choices.

But here she is. FINALLY.

And as much as I hate to admit it, I think she turned out pretty darn beautiful. The custom deep green, original wood base, and new brass hardware really let those gorgeous vintage lines shine.

Do I love the finished piece? Absolutely.

Do I ever want to see it in my workshop again? Absolutely not. 😂

French Provincial is one of those styles that can change completely depending on how it’s finished and where it lands.

The style became especially popular in American homes during the mid-20th century, borrowing its graceful curves, cabriole-style legs, decorative drawer fronts and ornate hardware from traditional French furniture—but in a way that felt a little more relaxed and livable.

For this one, the transformation was actually pretty simple. A soft blue finish brought all of those pretty details forward, while the warm brass hardware kept it classic.

And then I got to see it in its new home.

That might be my favorite part of refinishing furniture—seeing a piece leave my workshop and suddenly make complete sense in someone else’s room. This one looks like it was made for the space.

Swipe to see where she landed. 🤍

A little old-world European charm with a whole lot of character!

This very old, handmade chest has been reimagined with a decorative finish inspired by the richly painted furniture found in European interiors for centuries, particularly the Italian tradition of incorporating color, ornamentation, and artistry into everyday furnishings.

Layers of weathered green, muted red, and antique gold were carefully distressed and aged to create a finish that feels as though it has evolved over generations rather than been newly painted.

What I love about this one is that it doesn’t try to be perfect. The chest itself has plenty of age-related quirks and imperfections, and rather than disguise its history, I wanted the finish to celebrate it.

The result is a wonderfully imperfect, one-of-a-kind statement piece that feels more like a decorative work of art than an ordinary chest of drawers.
