I've been contemplating how life would have been different if Dolores had not helped Carla escape from Fermin. I know Dolores was not aware she was sacrificing herself and Vanessa so that Carla could live. I would be a lot better off if i knew where Carla was and what happened in her life. I would love to let Jesus A Garza that i still mourn the loss every day. RIP angels.

Venessa passed away one day after being born via emergency c section. I did not pay attention to the spelling of her name until I saw it on her headstone yesterday. I often wonder what she would have accomplished in the last 36 years. It's the unrealized potential that bothers me. So many women and children lose their lives in incidents of domestic violence.

It has been 26 years now since the terrible day when Dolores Garza, my dear neighbor, was murdered. Her baby Vanessa lived for 1 day. Jesus Alejandro Garza, her husband, was at work. I was a college student that lived downstairs. Dolores had been only married for about a year. The baby shower was on Saturday and Fermin killed her the following Tuesday. About 10 months before I had taken Fermin and Carla to my parents home at Christmas because they were refugees in a foreign land and did not have family in the USA. Fermin remains locked in a concrete and metal cage with no climate control. Closure is a myth. I will stop mourning Dolores and Vanessa when I stop breathing. Domestic violence is simply part of life. Love is also a part of live. If you have any love in your, then please share it with others. They sure need it to combat the violence. Teach your children that monsters are in fact real. Teach them that the way to identify them is love. Love motivates the actions of those that are not monsters. Monsters generally blame others for their situation. They take out their anger and rage on those around them.

Dolores and her daughter Vanessa have now been gone almost 36 years. I had not considered Vanessa having children until today. So, she'd probably have had a few. So, taking their lives so long ago prevented the sweet wonderful lessons that a mother and grandmother would have been able to impart on the world. Dolores sacrificed herself to help Carla escape Fermin and his violence. I was there to put Fermin away in one of those hot Texas prison cells. Shocking that I took he and Carla to my parents home for Christmas less than a year before he committed such a heinous crime. Dolores was the picture of kindness, generosity, and love. I wish I could see Carla again. I hope Jesus Alejandro Garza, Dolores' husband found peace and love again. I hope he found kindness. Being a witness really is something that never goes away. I've done my best to help others but this world just seems to be more brutal than ever. I'll just try to turn up the love and kindness.

It is so difficult to deal with the death of a loved one. Dolores Garza laid down her life to save Carla. She did not even know she was doing it. She disregarded her own safety when she assisted Carla in her escape from the murderer. I disregarded my own safety when I chased after the murderer. Of course, I hope that I would have just run his evil ass over if he ran out of gas. Thankfully HPD was on their way to recover a stolen vehicle and joined the chase. I mourn the unrealized potential that the life of Vanessa Garza was. Life for 1 day. A mom murdered before she could give birth. All doctors tried to save them. I'm left here over 30 years later trying to make sense of it and there is no making sense of it. Men historically perpetuate these crimes against women. If you find you are in need of an escape vehicle, please let me know. I will drive the getaway car.

I was at the gravesite this past week. I am going to get out there and clean the stone and inquire about leveling the stone.

Imagine it. Dolores Garza had her baby shower on Saturday and then was murdered before Vanessa was born. Vanessa hardly had a chance delivered via emergency c section. So, no mothers day for Dolores. No real birthday for Vanessa. Sure, a number to put on a stone; but, is that the purpose of a birthday. No, it is to celebrate the anniversary of a birth. The murderer continues to spend his days and nights in a prison. I wish I could let Jesus Alejandro Garza, the man that never was able to celebrate a mothers day for his wife or a birthday for his daughter. Never mind that he never was celebrated for being the father. I hope he has a family now and is celebrated.

It never really goes away when a traumatic incident happens in your life. Here I am over 30 years since this incident and it continues to impact my life. I am finally getting it through my thick skull that the solution has nothing to do with those that are abused. The only way to stop any of the rampant abuse across the length and breadth of our culture is to have everyone examine all of their actions through the lens of abuse. Is it abusive to vote for a specific candidate over another? Does my pet kill wildlife? Do corporate and personal actions that I have control over destroy the environment that we are living in? Is there anything that I can do to be more loving towards nature or people? Can we teach children in school that some relationships end in death because of abuse? Can we teach them that one parent abusing another is a crime and the police should be involved? Must everyone have quick and easy access to fi****ms? Is back the blue more important than backing the mentally ill? Abuse is pervasive. The only way to stop it is to stop the abusers.

Be safe. I love you. I hope today is a great day for you.

Tomorrow it will be 34 years since Dolores Garza. Vanessa, her baby, died the next day. Time keeps marching on without them and countless others that have lost their lives to monsters that walk and talk like most people most of the time. It is only by interrupting the generational curse that is domestic violence that there is any hope of reducing it. Blast the trumpet, bang the drum. Do something to wake these monsters up. Encourage them to leave their families until they can fix themselves. Sure, send money to support them. Sure, call them and tell them you love them. However, stay away from them until you are able to stop being violent, controlling, jealous, and all other emotions that would lead you to hurting people you claim to love.
