In Argentina, half the population has health insurance through their workplace or through private prepaid health plans. The other half are uninsured workers in the informal economy of day laborers, nannies, taxi drivers, small shop owners, recyclers ("cartoneros"), and street vendors who receive care in free public clinics and hospitals. Siempre Salud addresses all three problems: access, access on time, and quality after access (and a fourth, outdated methods of service delivery). You can't expect good outcomes from long waiting times for appointments to see poorly trained providers who don't have basic laboratory tests nor appropriate doses and quantities of medications. People get their money's worth from low-cost and free care in public clinics in Peru (little or nothing). We found that quality care targeted to prevention of mortality that was brought to residents' front doors before they became sick... was affordable.... $3.50 per household per month. http://bit.ly/1igIR2Z

Baylor College of Medicine international track students studying at Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia in Lima came down to volunteer in a rapidly-deployed clinic in Micaela Bastidas in Pueblo Nuevo, Chincha, Peru. They were great. They helped a lot. Great students. Baylor should be proud of them.

The Salon Comunal in Ciudad Satelite has been under construction for a year. This is the final stage of that work. The Salon Comunal is finished! We operated the maiden clinic there on July 10th, 2011.
