These nightstands came to me for what was supposed to be an easy strip and stain. My client loves the character of older pieces and just wanted them refinished with a dark walnut stain, no repairs.
But once I stripped them down, we found a much bigger issue: mold and water damage.
The interior panels, drawer bottoms, and even the outside side panels were warped and affected.
I reached out to my client with photos and options. Because honestly? Not every piece is worth saving. It comes down to the client and what the piece is worth to them.
They decided these nightstands fit perfectly in their space and worth the investment. So we’re doing a full mold remediation, replacing all but one drawer bottom, and replacing the side panels due to water damage.
It’s more work than we planned. But when a client loves a piece, sometimes “character” means saving it the right way — safely and solid.
I’ll be sharing the mold restoration process in my next post, because this is something a lot of older furniture deals with and nobody talks about it.
Stay tuned for the reveal 💛
