It's reveal time for this antique armoir!
I have never used so many colors on a piece before, especially bold colors. This has 6 different colors of paint and 2 different colors of glazes. This piece was a lot of fun to create, after I got the hang of it. I wanted to add something fun to the inside and added a transfer to the drawers. I changed the inside oak color to dark walnut for a more modern look. What do you think? Do you like this style?

After painting the base color on the drawers and sealing them, I applied 3 more colors and blended, then sealed them. It was fun using a transfer of cherry blossoms and birds 🐦 to really style up the drawers. My husband helped me lay the armoir down so I could work on the legs. One needed repairs, then they were all cleaned, sanded, painted and sealed. I'm going to add some black glaze to the legs to add some dimension and tone down the vibrant blue.💙

Here are a couple of progress pictures of my armoir. I used some bright, new to me colors for this piece. I added a black glaze to the brilliant blue to tone it down a notch. I'm going for an old world finish where multiple layers of colors show on the piece. Still more work to go.

I wanted to change the stain color on the inside from a golden oak to a walnut color. The drawers show the original color, compared to the new stain color. Next I applied this bright blue paint color. Bear with me! I know it looks wild at this point, but it will look better.

This antique armoir will be painted and used in my upholstery shop for storage. I started by cleaning and removing loose veneer. Then I applied two coats of BIN primer. Then I sanded the drawers to remove the shellac. I like them better without the orange finish. Then I applied a decorative wood mould to the top. Stay tuned to see what's up next! This piece is going to be different from any finish I've painted before!

Back to work on this steamer trunk....sanding, sanding, sanding! I got all the wheat paste removed from the inside. Happy dance! 😊 I have more sanding to go, but at least the first pass is complete.
