My Story

I was 21 years old and just had my first daughter. I knew I wanted to provide for her in every way possible. To me, this meant postponing my education and staying at home full-time to take care of her. My husband worked and we lived off his income alone. We were between apartments and the three of us were staying at my Mom’s house.

We were about to move to our next apartment so my grandfather had given me a coffee table. Now, on the surface the average person may not have thought this was a great table. But I could see past the spray painted blue and black surface. I went to work right away. I stripped off the old paint, sanded it down, and repainted it. I added some detail by distressing it and added new hardware to the drawers. By the time I was finished, it didn’t even look like the same table.

I was so proud of my work I posted it to show my family and friends how it turned out. By the next day I had several people asking where I got it from or if they could buy it. I started buying other old pieces of furniture and made them new again.

Eventually, my little hobby brought me to the idea of building my own pieces. I started teaching myself how to build furniture from other people’s building plans online and then selling them. The more I built, the more people were interested and asking for custom orders. I started sketching and writing my own building plans to help my customers visions come to life.
