“The beauty of design lies in its ability to transform ordinary spaces into extraordinary experiences.”

Great design is about so much more than creating a beautiful room.

It’s about walking into your home and immediately feeling a sense of calm. It’s a kitchen that makes you want to gather. A dining room that turns dinner into an occasion. A bedroom that feels like a retreat. A living space that invites you to stay just a little longer.

The most successful interiors don’t simply change the way a space looks—they change the way you experience it.

Through thoughtful space planning, beautiful materials, layers of texture, intentional lighting and those final, carefully considered details, even the most ordinary space can become something extraordinary.

At Knudson Interiors, that transformation is at the heart of what we do.

We don’t just design rooms. We create experiences.

A shower niche may be a small detail, but getting it right can make the entire bathroom feel more custom, intentional, and luxurious.

A few designer secrets we swear by:

Skip the accent tile. Continuing the shower tile through the niche creates a cleaner, more seamless look.

Size it for real life. Design the niche around your tallest shampoo and product bottles—not just what looks good on paper.

Use a stone sill instead of tile. A solid piece of stone means fewer grout joints, easier cleaning, and a more elevated finish.

Go full width. Extending the niche across the width of the shower creates a dramatic architectural detail and gives you plenty of functional storage.

Choose mitered stone edges. Instead of visible metal trim, mitered stone edges create a beautifully tailored, high-end finish.

Great bathroom design isn't just about selecting beautiful materials. It's about knowing the little details that make those materials look—and function—better.

Save this for your next bathroom remodel.

Choosing a sofa color is about more than picking a shade you love—it’s about creating the foundation for the entire room.

Your sofa is often one of the largest pieces in the space, so its color has a major influence on how the room feels. Before you choose, think about the mood you want to create:

Warm Beige — soft, inviting and effortlessly timeless.
Soft Brown — rich, grounded and naturally sophisticated.
Cream — light, elegant and perfect for an airy aesthetic.
Taupe — understated and versatile with a beautifully tailored feel.
Sand Beige — relaxed warmth that works especially well with organic textures.
Charcoal Grey — dramatic, modern and ideal for adding depth and contrast.
Off White — fresh, refined and a beautiful backdrop for layered neutrals.

One of our favorite designer tips? Don’t choose your sofa color in isolation. Consider your flooring, wall color, natural light, rugs and other finishes. And always look at the fabric sample in your actual space—color can change dramatically from morning to evening.

A neutral sofa doesn’t have to mean a neutral room. It gives you the freedom to introduce personality through pillows, throws, artwork, accent chairs and accessories—and update those pieces as your style evolves.

At Knudson Interiors, we believe the best rooms begin with thoughtful choices that work beautifully together.

Which would you choose: Warm Beige, Soft Brown, Cream, Taupe, Sand Beige, Charcoal Grey or Off White?

The difference between a surface that feels decorated and one that feels beautifully collected is all in the layering.

The goal isn’t perfection—or filling every inch. It’s creating a mix of objects that feels interesting, personal, and as though it evolved over time.

ADD SOMETHING UNEXPECTED
Every arrangement needs a little tension. Add an object that makes someone look twice—a sculptural piece, vintage find, small piece of art, unusual vessel, travel treasure, or something with a sense of humor. The unexpected is often what gives a room personality.

FOLLOW THE 60/40 RULE
Think 60% decorative + 40% functional. Beautiful objects create the story, while useful pieces keep the space livable. On a coffee table, that might mean art books and a sculptural bowl mixed with coasters or a beautiful box that hides the remote.

STYLE IN ODD NUMBERS
Groups of three or five tend to feel more natural and visually interesting than perfectly symmetrical pairs. Try grouping a stack of books, a decorative object, and a small vase together rather than lining everything up individually.

VARY HEIGHT, SCALE + SHAPE
Mix tall with short, round with angular, and substantial pieces with smaller accents. If everything is the same height and size, the eye has nowhere to go.

LAYER—DON’T LINE UP
Place an object on top of a stack of books. Lean a small piece of art behind another object. Let pieces overlap slightly. Layering creates depth and makes a vignette feel collected rather than staged.

The most interesting homes don’t look like they were decorated in a day. They feel layered, personal, collected and lived in.

That’s where the magic happens.

🐾 Mochi's Seal of Approval! 🐾

At Knudson Interiors, we believe great design should look beautiful AND feel amazing. And who better to put that philosophy to the test than our very own mascot, Mochi?

Today's assignment? Quality control on the bedding!

Mochi takes her job very seriously—testing softness, evaluating comfort, and making sure every layer meets her exceptionally high standards.

After a thorough inspection, we're happy to report that the bedding has officially earned the Mochi 5-Paw Approval! 🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾

Because luxury isn't just about how a space looks…it's about how it makes you feel.

And judging by Mochi's expression, we may have a hard time getting her to check out!

“The details in a room are like the punctuation marks in a sentence; they make it complete.”

A beautiful room is more than furniture, finishes and color. It’s the thoughtful details that give a space its personality—and ultimately make it feel complete.

The placement of a lamp.
The scale of a piece of art.
The texture of a pillow.
The finish on a cabinet pull.
The way objects are layered on a table.

Individually, they may seem small. Together, they create rhythm, balance and intention.

At Knudson Interiors, we believe great design lives in these details. Because a room shouldn’t simply look finished—it should feel considered, collected and uniquely yours.

It’s not just what you put in a room. It’s how every detail works together.

The bedroom is becoming more than a place to sleep. In 2027, we’re seeing the bed take center stage—designed not only for beauty, but for comfort, calm and a better way to begin and end each day.

Some of the looks we’re loving:
Modern Bouclé— Inviting texture that makes a bedroom instantly feel softer and more luxurious.

Floating Serenity— Streamlined, elevated designs create a sense of lightness and calm.

Sculpted Fluting — Architectural texture brings subtle dimension without overwhelming the room.

Curved Statements— Soft silhouettes are replacing hard edges for bedrooms that feel welcoming and restorative.

Low-Profile Living— Grounded proportions create an effortless, contemporary aesthetic.

Natural Elegance— Earthy colors and nature-inspired materials continue to bring warmth indoors.

Timeless Walnut — Rich wood tones add depth, character and a sense of permanence.

Organic Texture— Woven materials, natural fibers and tactile finishes keep neutral rooms interesting.

Soft Sculpture— Upholstered beds are becoming works of art in their own right.

Built-In Luxury— Integrated storage and thoughtful functionality prove that practical can still be beautiful.

Layered Comfort— Upholstery, bedding, throws and pillows combine to create an irresistible sense of retreat.

Quiet Minimalism— Less visual clutter, better materials and intentional choices create rooms that allow you to truly unwind.

We’re moving away from spaces designed simply to photograph beautifully and toward spaces designed to help us live beautifully.

Because great bedroom design isn’t just about the bed.

It’s about how you feel when you climb into it at the end of the day—and how you feel when you wake up the next morning.

I can also make this **shorter and punchier for Instagram**, with a stronger opening hook designed to encourage saves and shares.

Life Is Short. Eat Dessert.

It’s National Dessert Day, and at Knudson Interiors, we believe the sweetest moments deserve a beautiful setting.

A gorgeous dining space isn’t just about how it looks—it’s about the moments that happen around the table. Celebrations, conversations, laughter…and occasionally an entire table filled with dessert.

Because great design should make everyday life feel a little more indulgent.
Happy National Dessert Day from Knudson Interiors!

A beautifully designed home isn’t about filling every corner or buying everything from the same showroom. It’s about the small, intentional choices that make a space feel collected, comfortable, and uniquely yours.

What interior designers do to make a home feel designed:

• Leave breathing room. Not every wall, shelf, table, or corner needs something. Negative space gives the pieces you love room to shine.

• Layer the lighting. Recessed ceiling lights have their place, but they shouldn’t do all the work. We layer table lamps, floor lamps, sconces, pendants, and accent lighting to create warmth, dimension, and atmosphere.

• Design for the way you actually live. Your home shouldn’t look like a catalog—it should work beautifully for your routines, your family, and the way you entertain and relax.

• Create warmth with pools of light. Lighting at different heights instantly makes a room feel softer, more inviting, and more finished.

• Mix, don’t match. Instead of buying an entire furniture collection, combine pieces from different sources, eras, and price points. That’s how a home begins to feel collected rather than purchased all at once.

• Rethink the pillows. Skip the matching sets. Mix sizes, shapes, fabrics, and textures while keeping a cohesive color story.

• Hang curtains higher and wider. Taking drapery closer to the ceiling and extending the rod beyond the window can make windows—and the entire room—feel larger and more elegant.

The secret to a designer home isn’t more stuff. It’s knowing what to add, what to mix, where to place it—and when to stop.

🍁🐾 Fall is Mochi's Favorite Season! 🐾🍂

Our favorite little design assistant, Mochi the Mascot, has officially declared fall her favorite time of year! 🍁

Between the crisp autumn air, colorful leaves, cozy cashmere throws, and extra snuggle time, what's not to love?

At Knudson Interiors, we couldn't agree more! Fall is the perfect season to embrace warm textures, rich earthy tones, layered fabrics, and all the little details that make a house feel like home.

And according to Mochi, every beautifully designed space should include one very important accessory… a cozy spot just for her!

Here's to falling leaves, beautiful interiors, and a little extra fluff this season!

Happy Fall from Mochi and the Knudson Interiors team!
