Anything Gone Wrong

Just moved into a new house and found this hanging from the ceiling…
I genuinely have no idea what it is and it looks creepy enough that I’m scared to touch it. 😭
Does anyone know what this thing is supposed to be?

Someone left a whole pile of these outside with a giant “FREE” sign, so naturally I took a few 😅
Now I’m trying to figure out what they actually are…
Each one came individually wrapped inside a blue bag, They were ridiculously hard to open — we literally had to cut them apart. And whatever’s inside is rock hard and smells super strongly like lemon 🤔🍋 Does anyone recognize these things?

Ive seen a few of these in my life, but never knew what the did. Why are they filled with hay? Are they for blocking stuff such as leaves or water? Or is it a sort of barrier as a "do not cross" type deal?
