Surf School-
Our Mission Statement at EVERYDAY Padang Padang Surf is to provide the best Surf Instruction anywhere in the world. We want You to have Fun during the entire session, and to be equipped with the skills and knowledge to allow you to progress independently after completing our courses. This requires training and knowledge that sadly, most Surf Schools don’t and won’t supply. We believe these skills are essential if you want to be a “Real Surfer”. We employ only Instructors Trained to International Standard Certification. We also have a mix of both Local and Western Instructors to provide both an international and local approach to all aspects of Surfing and Coaching. Our Local instructors grew up Surfing the very waves in which we hold daily classes, meaning complete Local Knowledge of the set-ups and Respect from All in the water. You will be taught all the basics, Lying on the Board, Paddling, Getting to Your Feet and Turns, then going all the way to Advanced Manoeuvres and How to Surf Big Waves. Anyone can learn how to surf, you just need the right instruction by the right instructors! We are the only School in Bali to provide Surf Training both in and out the water, with theory sessions to help explain the often complex situations that may arise out in the Ocean. These sessions also cover very important aspects of Surfing such as Swell, Wind and Tide conditions and how they relate to certain “breaks”. This information is critical when you leave the camp to eventually find “your own waves”. You will learn about etiquette and politics in “the line-up”, these are import points relating to safety in the water, and often completely new knowledge for beginners and/or those that have not surfed with others in the water. Learning how to “read” the surf is also a huge part of progressing your surfing as well as being safe in the ocean. It will allow you to catch many more waves, and that’s what surfing is all about, “Catching Waves”, you can’t surf until you learn to catch waves. These critical aspects of Surfing are sadly neglected by most other Surf Schools. In addition to traditional surfing, you have the exclusive opportunity at Padang Padnag Real Surf to try Stand-Up Paddle Surfing (SUP). We are the only operation in Southern Bali with the knowledge and equipment to allow you to master the “fastest growing water sport” in the world today, SUP. Why is SUP surfing so popular, because its Super Fun, and allows total beginners, even those who have never surfed before, to participate in a matter of minutes. We have super stable boards for learners, you can be up and paddling the first time you step onto the board. Surfers “Need” good quality food. After all, you only get out what you put in. At Padang Padang Real Surf we know that “good quality” Organic Healthy Food is essential, as well as being delicious. We offer 3 big meals a day, all with good Protein and Vegetable content. Some other surf camps will have you eating fried rice and noodles every day, that’s both boring and not enough nutrition for a day’s hard surfing. You’ll get Breakfast and Lunch prepared fresh at the Villa, combining Plenty of Organic Fresh Eggs, Vegetables, Chicken and Fish with Rice, Pasta and Potatoes, all prepared with local herbs and spices. After all, Bali was known to Europeans for hundreds of years as “The Spice Islands”, Mmm! For dinner we Eat Out at the “Best” Restaurants in the area. We’re Local and have tried them all, so we only go to the best in town. The BBQ Fish in Bali is caught daily, and if it’s not the best Fish Meal you’ve had ever, anywhere, anytime, I’ll eat my hat! The food on the menu at these restaurants combines everything from Asian and Traditional Balinese to Western Favourites like Burgers and Chips. The choice is yours, Bon Appetite! We are the only Surf School operation on “TheBukit” that provides Lessons and Equipment for Stand-Up Paddle surfing. Stand-Up Paddle (SUP) surfing is the “world’s fastest growing water sport”, why? because its heaps of fun, provides excellent balance training for “normal or traditional” surfing, incredible core fitness training, and can be learnt by anyone in just minutes. Even if you’ve never ridden a surfboard you may be able to Stand Up Paddle immediately. Women can often learn even quicker than men as they generally have a lower centre-of-gravity, providing more stability when standing on the board. For beginner surfers, you will be able to spend hours standing/paddling on the board, and start developing the balance skills required for normal surfing. This will rapidly improve your overall surfing style and feel for your board when surfing waves. For more experienced surfers these same balance characteristics combined with core strength gains will have you feeling “glued” to the board the next time you surf a short board. You will also experience a new “stoke” in the water not felt since you were a “grommet” catching your first waves. Unlike just about anywhere else in the World we can surf everyday in Bali, and do it Wearing just Board Shorts all Year. The exposure to the constant Indian Ocean Swells, combined with over 270 degrees of surf-able coastline on “The Bukit” means that we can always find a surf-able wave with “Offshore winds” any day of the year. We can reach any of these spots in a maximum of 20 minutes from our base at Padang Padang. We also have local knowledge of heaps of spots that you won’t find mentioned in any surf guides or books, many of these spots have rideable waves, when the ocean may appear to be flat elsewhere. Tracks Surf Magazine placed 10 of Bali’s Waves within the Top 100 Waves Worldwide, that means Bali alone has 10% of the World’s Premier Waves. Have a look at our Photo Gallery, these shots represent the sort of conditions you can expect to see as average waves in Bali, not a “once a year” situation, which may be photographed at other spots in the world. Bali has Surf able waves 365 days of the year as it receives swells uninterrupted from any part of the Indian Ocean as well as the Arafura Sea towards Northern Australia. These open ocean swells emerge from a deep ocean trench (over 3000 metres deep) and then combine with perfectly shaped flat reefs close to the shoreline of the Island, producing “Indo Perfection”, any real surfers dream waves. This constant supply of groomed long-fetch ocean swell is then met with seasonal “trade-winds”, Easterly in the Dry season and Westerly in the Wet season. With travel time from the East to West coast on the Bukit peninsula at only 15 minutes by car, this means perfect waves all day and every day. Most other Surf Regions in the World have fluctuating winds that mean perfect conditions may last just a few hours, at best. The Bukit area of Bali has by far the best Water and Air quality of the entire Island of Bali. The Low population and NO rivers in the area mean the water is usually Crystal Clear and the Sea Air is Fresh. Some other popular breaks on the central coast of the Island e.g. Kuta, Legian, Seminyak, Canngu, Keramas, Medewi and Balian, can suffer from waterborne pollution due to river run-off, creating murky water and leading to ear infections or worse. The lack of rivers, creeks and standing water on The Bukit (it’s a Limestone Plateau) also means Very Few Mosquitoes even during the wet season. Culture and Language-
Bali is a Hindu island located in the middle of Indonesian Archipelago. Although Indonesia is the world’s most populous Muslim country, Bali is unique in its adherence to its Hindu and previously Buddhist Roots. It is known as the “Land of the Gods” and you will quickly realise why, with its 1000’s of Temples and daily Ceremonies. Every house has at least 1 Hindu Shrine (our Villa has 6), and these are attended with Prayers and Offerings to the Gods 3 times a day (morning, noon and night). These Ceremonies are extremely colourful and festive, and are often accompanied by Gamelan (traditional Balinese-Hindu) music. The Hindu faith with its 1000’s of different gods is one of the most tolerant of all religions. Non-Hindus are able to attend most Ceremonies as long as appropriate clothing is worn (can be purchased cheaply outside most Temples), this includes a Sarong and Headdress. The locals of Bali usually speak the traditional Balinese language at home and amongst themselves, as well as “Bahasa”, the official language of the country of Indonesia. Almost everyone in Bali, and especially those involved in the tourism industry speaks very good conversational English and possibly some other European or Asian languages. Nature-
The area surrounding the Villa is rural with Cows grazing next door, as well as Chickens, many Native Birds, Frogs, Crickets and Wild Monkeys. We have a quiet and tranquil location despite being just 100 meters from the road and 2 minutes walk to the beach. The Air and Water quality of the area are by far the best in Bali, and it is also the most scenic area of the Island. Tourist Sites-
The world famous and spectacular Uluwatu Temple is just 5 Minutes from the villa. Go and experience some of the local Hindu culture and the Sunset at this temple built right on the cliff top overlooking the Indian Ocean. Watch out for the Hundreds of Cheeky Monkeys, they will steal your Hat or Glasses if you turn your back on them. There are many other smaller Temples dotted all over the area. Bali is the “Land of the Gods” and you can’t go more than a few hundred metres without seeing another Temple, Shrine or Locals performing Ceremony. Party and Nightlife-
There are weekly Parties at several local bars with DJ’s and Live Bands, these are all within “staggering” distance of the Villa after a big night. Also the World Famous Nightspots of Kuta and Seminyak are only around 30 minutes by car. These are busy 365 days of the year. So if your surfed-out or just want to let loose, there are always Party options in Bali. Getting Here-
Bali has an International Airport, with most Major, and many discount Airlines flying regular services. The Airport is called Denpasar International (DPS) and located about 30 minutes from the Villa. Seasons and Weather-
The Weather and Water in Bali is warm and tropical year round (no wetsuits required), being just 8 degrees South of the Equator. There are two distinct seasons, The “Dry Season” (April-October) and the Wet Season” (November-March). It rarely rains during the Dry Season and can sometimes be cool at night and early morning (20 degrees C ). During the Wet Season the weather is more humid, and often a more stable temperature between day and night. It may rain late at night or in fact anytime, although these showers are usually quite short, and sometimes very intense but just a few minutes in duration. These showers can offer a welcome relief to both heat and dust in the air, providing a cleansing effect. After these brief showers the wind often stops and the waves and water can go “glassy” providing perfect surf conditions. The waves during both Seasons can be equally good, and the Villa and Surf School operate year round, although different surf spots work during the different seasons, this is where our local knowledge is critical, to get you on the perfect wave.
