Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. congratulates our Brother, Mike Tomlin (1991 Eta Omega Chapter initiate), coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers, as he was recently named AFC Coach of the Year.
Tomlin was given this accolade due to the fact that he led the Steelers to a 10-6 record despite half of the team’s starters missing games because of injuries, including three current or former All-Pro players. He guided them to a wild-card berth in spite of star quarterback Ben Roethlisberger missing four games, and other players were sidelined a total of 38 games.
Tomlin was hired by the Pittsburgh Steelers at the age of 34, he became the youngest head coach in NFL history to both coach in and win a Super Bowl. By winning the Super Bowl in only his second season as a head coach, he also became the fastest to win a Super Bowl title in Steelers history. His 82-46 regular-season record (.641) is the best start in franchise history.
In his eight years as head coach of the Steelers, Tomlin has led Pittsburgh to four AFC North titles and has guided the Steelers to the playoffs five times, including two trips to the Super Bowl (XLIII and XLV).
