Considering Law School...

Dear Friends,

The Warden has been calling me a "bowling ball on a leash" for quite a while now. At first, I assumed it was one of her many affectionate nicknames.

Then, being a dog of science, I decided to research the phrase before accepting it as fact. Unfortunately...My findings were less than flattering. Apparently, bowling balls are heavy, round, and difficult to stop once they get rolling.

I prefer to think of myself as compact, athletic, and enthusiastically committed to forward progress.

As Elly Mae, M.D. (Mutt Doctorate), I feel obligated to follow the facts wherever they lead. And those facts have led me to one important question...

Has the Warden committed canine defamation?

If so, perhaps it's time to pursue another degree. I've been giving serious thought to attending law school this fall to earn my JD (Juris Dogtor). Not because I'm looking for revenge...But because I suspect there are countless innocent dogs who have also been unfairly labeled.

I've heard rumors of dogs being called:
• Couch potatoes
• Velcro dogs
• Chunky monkeys
• Drama queens

Someone has to stand up for these victims of irresponsible nicknaming.

So before I submit my application, I'd like your opinion.

Do I have a case?

And while you're at it...

What's the funniest nickname you've ever given (or heard someone give) a dog?

Your testimony may help shape my future legal career.

Respectfully,

Dr. Elly Mae, M.D.
(Mutt Doctorate)

Future Candidate for the JD (Juris Dogtor)

Christmas in July Check-In
with Elly Mae, M.D. (Mutt Doctorate)

Elly Mae: Welcome back to Chats from the Comfort Corner! Santa, it’s been about a month since your six-month checkup. I just wanted to make sure you haven’t ignored my medical advice.

Santa: Ho, ho, ho! Not a chance, Doctor. I’ve been using my massage chair every day.

EM: Excellent. Remember, it’s much easier to prevent back pain than to fix it after hauling toys around the world.

Santa: Mrs. Claus reminds me of that too.

EM: Smart woman.

EM: So…have you started checking the Nice List?

Santa: I have.

EM: And?

Santa: It’s still being reviewed.

EM: What about me?

Santa: You’re looking good.

EM: Knew it.

EM: And…the Warden?

Santa: Let’s just say she has a very detailed file.

EM: Sounds about right.

EM: Last question. Milk or cookies?

Santa: Cookies.

EM: Wrong answer. The correct answer is treats.

Santa: Ho, ho, ho! I’ll make a note of that.

EM: Well, Santa, everything sounds good. Keep using that massage chair, don’t wait until Christmas Eve to think about your back, and I’ll see you after the holidays.

Santa: Ho, ho, ho! Merry Christmas…in July!

Dear Treat Committee,

I’d like to file a formal complaint regarding the Warden’s definition of “a short walk.”

Please see attached evidence.

I object.

🚨 Walking Around the World: Summer Update 🚨

You know those Walking Around the World adventures I've been taking?

Yeah... they never stopped.

For weeks now, the Warden has had me walking 1.6 miles almost every single day. Early mornings. Late evenings. Sweating my little patootie off while she kept saying things like, "Just a little farther."

RUDE.

Then the heat 🫠showed up.

I overheard the Warden telling Deputy Warden Dad that the pavement was getting way too hot for my paws and that she needed to buy me some shoes.

I got scared. Have you seen the shoes that woman wears? 👠 And she was going to pick some out for ME?

Thankfully, Deputy Warden Dad stepped in...Unfortunately, he stepped in with the worst idea he's had in a long time.

"Why don't you have her exercise in the pool? Swimming is a great way to get in shape without risking heat stroke or burned feet."

Excuse me, sir? I thought we were on the same team.

So now my daily walks have turned into daily swims.

The Warden says it's easier on my joints.

Deputy Warden Dad says it's a great workout.

I say they're both lucky I don't know how to drive.

But I guess a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do if she's going to keep walking around the world...Even if some of those miles happen one lap at a time.

Same world. Different workout. 🐾💦

P.S. The Warden took pictures of the whole thing because apparently humiliation is now part of my fitness plan.

Santa's 6-Month Follow-Up

with Elly Mae, M.D. (Mutt Doctorate)

Elly Mae: Welcome back to Chats from the Comfort Corner! Today I'm checking in with one of my favorite patients...Santa Claus! 🎅

Santa: Ho, ho, ho! Good to see you, Doctor.

EM: Santa, six months ago I was worried about your back after delivering presents to every house on Earth. How are we doing?

SC: Much better! I've been following doctor's orders and spending plenty of time in my massage chair.

EM: On a scale of "Oh, Oh, Oh" to "Ho, Ho, Ho," how's the back?

SC: Definitely "Ho, Ho, Ho."

EM: Excellent! Have you started preparing for Christmas yet?

SC: I have.

EM: Good. I don't want you waiting until December to think about your back. Preventive care, Santa!

We'll check back in before Christmas in July to see if you're really staying on track.

SC: Ho, ho, ho! I'll be ready.

📺 Next appointment: July 25 – Christmas in July!

Dr. Elly Mae still has a few important questions for Santa...including who's on the Nice List and whether he really prefers milk or cookies. 🎅🥛🍪

🐾 Happy Father’s Day to My Dad 🐾

Dad,

A year ago, you came to the shelter and picked me.

At the time, I had a broken shoulder, a broken tail, and some questionable life circumstances.

Since then, I’ve gained a family, a home, two Russian siblings, a favorite patio, and a full-time job that I most definitely did not apply for.

Thank you for always making time to hang out with me on the patio, for sharing your snacks, for telling me I’m a good girl, and for occasionally rescuing me from the prison Mom calls “work.”

You never seem to mind when I invade your personal space, steal your chair, or supervise everything you’re doing.

Honestly, I think you’ve got this whole dad thing figured out.

Some dogs get a dad.

I got the Best Dog Dad Ever.

Happy Father’s Day.

Love,

Elly Mae 🐾❤️

P.S. I would also like to respectfully suggest more patio time and more rescue missions from work. 🐾

I had my annual vet visit yesterday. The doctor says I'm healthy. Actually, she said I'm "healthy." You know... with air quotes. Then she said she wouldn't be upset if I lost a couple of pounds and told Mom that walking 1.6 miles a day is perfectly acceptable.

RUDE.

Then they stole my blood. Nearly all of it, judging by the size of that bandage. Look at that thing! I did get treats and ear rubs, so for a brief moment I thought I had made a new friend. Turns out she was working with Mom the whole time.

To make matters worse, I got not one, but TWO shots! They also renewed my license for another year, which is nice, I guess. Personally, I think the rabies shot should have gone to Mom because she is definitely the rabid one around here. So now I'm "healthy," licensed, vaccinated, and suffering from trust issues.

All this on what was supposed to be my day off.

Mom says I stink.

RUDE.

So after all my hard work, all my walking, all my sweating, and losing almost a whole pound...

I got sentenced to bath time.

The evidence against me was apparently overwhelming.

Now I've been scrubbed, rinsed, towel-wrapped, and publicly humiliated on the internet.

On the bright side, I smell like oatmeal and disappointment.

I would like to file a formal complaint.

But first...

I need a nap.

Baths are exhausting.

🐾 BIG NEWS! 🐾

Mom ordered a DNA test for me!

In just a few weeks, I may finally learn what I am. For over a year, people have been guessing everything from Weimaraner to Labrador Retriever to Yellow Hippopotamus.

Personally, I'm hoping for something impressive. Wolf? Lion? Bear? Land
Seal?

Mom says the results will probably come back as 50% Bully Stick Enthusiast, 50% Recliner Inspector, 98% Troublemaker, 2% Good Girl. I don't think Mom understands math.

The kit is on its way, and I can hardly contain my excitement. Soon I'll know where I came from, what breeds make me... me... and whether my tendency to steal hearts (and occasionally personal space) is hereditary.

Until then, let the guessing begin!

What breed mix do YOU think I am? 🐾
