The Bayeux Tapestry is a nearly 70-meter-long (230 feet) embroidered cloth from the 11th century that depicts the events leading up to the Norman Conquest of England in 1066.

What It Depicts\The Story: It follows the conflict between Harold, Earl of Wessex (later King Harold II of England), and William, Duke of Normandy.

Key Events: Scenes show Harold's journey to Normandy, his oath to Duke William, the death of King Edward the Confessor, and the decisive Battle of Hastings.

The Style: It features 58 distinct scenes with Latin captions (tituli) embroidered using colored woolen yarns on a linen background.

History and Facts\Creation: Historians believe it was made in England in the 1070s, likely commissioned by Bishop Odo of Bayeux, the half-brother of William the Conqueror.

Medium: Despite its name, it is not a true woven tapestry, but an embroidery.

Permanent Home: It has been preserved for centuries in Normandy, France, normally housed at the Bayeux Museum.

Aurélie Nahon is a professional chansigneuse (sign singing performer) and the co-founder of the collective 10 Doigts en Cavale (10 Fingers on the Run). Her job consists of translating and adapting concerts into French Sign Language (LSF) to make music accessible to deaf and hard-of-hearing people.

Le Labor Day, ou fête du Travail est une fête fédérale aux États-Unis et au Canada, célébrée le premier lundi de septembre, pour honorer et reconnaître le mouvement ouvrier américain et canadien, et les travaux et contributions des travailleurs. C'est le lundi du long week-end connu sous le nom de Labor Day Weekend ou Fin de semaine de la fête du Travail au Canada.

Origine et Histoire:

19e siècle : Le U.S. Department of Labor note que la fête est née pendant la révolution industrielle, une époque où les conditions de travail étaient très dures (12 heures par jour, 7 jours sur 7).

☀️Fin de l'été : C'est la fin non officielle de l'été. C’est le grand week-end de repos.

🧺Activités : Les gens font des barbecues, des voyages ou assistent à des défilés.

Inspiration: The performance is named after and inspired by a murmuration—the natural phenomenon where thousands of starlings wheel, dip, and swoop together in complex, fluid patterns across the sky.
Following viral internet success, major international appearances (including the Paris Olympics and global award shows), and a sold-out run in France, Berrabah expanded the production into Murmuration Level 2, featuring an ensemble of over 50 dancers on international stage.

Le 25 août 1944, Paris est libéré après quatre années d'occupation allemande. Menée conjointement par les Forces françaises de l'intérieur (FFI), la 2ᵉ division blindée du général Leclerc et les troupes alliées, cette libération marque un tournant décisif dans la reconquête du territoire français et redonne espoir à tout un pays

🏳️German commander Dietrich von Choltitz surrendered at the Gare Montparnasse, disobeying Hitler's orders to destroy the city. General de Gaulle arrived the same day to assume control of the city as head of the Provisional Government of the French Republic.

The liberation legitimized the Provisional Government's authority over mainland France, though armed conflict continued in parts of eastern France into early 1945

🇫🇷General de Gaulle delivered his famous speech on this day at the Hôtel de Ville, proclaiming: "Paris outragé ! Paris brisé ! Paris martyrisé ! mais Paris libéré !"
“Paris outraged! Paris broken! Paris martyred! But Paris liberated!"
The message was one of self-emancipation, an effort to boost national pride and unity.

French intervention in the American Revolution was crucial to securing American independence from Britain. But how and why did the French decide to commit to the American alliance? Join the Alliance Française of Mobile on August 26, the anniversary of the French Revolution’s 1789 Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen, for a glimpse at the American Revolution from a different point of view: the French reaction to America’s Declaration of Independence. » Dr. Harris, a Fairhope native and University of South Alabama alumnus, received his PhD in history from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2020.
