Hotels and restaurants have always known something every other industry is just now learning.

The room is the product.

A guest decides what a property is worth within seconds of walking in. Lighting, seating, acoustics, and flow do more to set perceived value than any campaign, because they’re the only part of the promise a guest can physically test.

Offices are only now discovering they have to earn the visit. Hospitality has never had the option of assuming otherwise.

Michael Goble has been through six major restructures. His argument isn't that HR should stop protecting people. It's that saying no from outside the room protects nobody, and that attrition, longer timelines and re-engineered roles only get modeled if someone is at the table doing the modeling.

Our partners at JSI explored that gap in a recent episode of Love What You Do featuring Aneetha McLellan, Executive Director of JSI Health + A+D and a friend of Lyric. Her belief is simple: healthcare spaces have to work for caregivers, not just patients and families.

We couldn’t agree more. A space that exhausts the people working in it will eventually fail the people it’s meant to serve. Purpose-built healthcare design means thinking about flow, recovery, and dignity for clinicians and staff, not just the patients passing through.

More employees are coming back to the office, but not necessarily in the way they have before.

CBRE’s 2026 research found that 89% of employers now require at least three days in the office, up from 78% in 2025. At the same time, individual workstations have declined 10% since 2023, while shared spaces for meetings, projects, and informal collaboration have grown 35%.

The message is simple:

The return to the office ≠ return to the old office.

It may be time to rethink the furniture, too.

A workplace refresh does not have to mean starting over. It can mean making the space you have work harder for the people using it today.

The question isn’t whether your people are coming back, but whether your workplace is ready for them.

If you want someone to say yes, meet them in person. ✅

According to research highlighted by Harvard Business Review, face-to-face requests are 34 times more successful than those made by email.

That’s a striking number. And it points to something we often overlook in a digital workplace: communication is about more than the words we send.

Being in the same room creates opportunities for conversation, context, trust, and the small human interactions that can move an idea forward.

In Tim Carroll’s new book, Work/Place, he explores how the environments we create influence the way people connect, collaborate, and perform.

The research gives us the numbers. The workplace allows us to put it into practice.
