Earlier this year, Donald Trump eliminated the EPA’s Endangerment Finding for motor vehicles, wiping out the bedrock scientific determination that greenhouse gases emitted through tailpipe pollution harms human health and the planet by driving climate change. Now, the administration is proposing to do the same for power plants. At the same time, EPA is finalizing a separate rule that repeals the Biden administration’s 2024 Carbon Pollution Standards, which would have required many coal and gas plants to cut 90% of their carbon emissions by 2032.

Together, these actions are designed to permanently strip the EPA of its authority to limit climate pollution under the Clean Air Act, leaving the agency legally unable to act on the largest sources of greenhouse gas emissions in the country, no matter what a future administration might want to do.

Since the EPA Administrator, Lee Zeldin is a Trump appointee who is behind most of the bad changes to protective laws, he is unlikely to care about our health and safety, but you can try: (202) 564-4700.

The law requires the EPA to protect public health – not to surrender that responsibility to the fossil fuel industry. Tell them to do their job: Protect our health. Protect our climate. Reject this repeal.
Also call and write your members of Congress: Congressional pressure is one of the most effective tools we have. Lawmakers need to hear directly from constituents.

If you destroy records, how do immigrants and Indigenous peoples find historical documents?
Closing down US Archives in Chicago, San Bruno, CA and moving files from the Seattle facility means that those researching naturalization records to prove citizenship status, Bureau of Indian Affairs records that prove ancestry of Indigenous people, those who need records of court cases in which they were involved, genealogical resources such as Japanese Issei historical records, and the Chinese Exclusion Act - can all disappear.

If you are interested in the future of the Mississippi River, you are encouraged to attend a meeting in your area. For Delta Chapter members there are two possibilities - Aug. 19th in Vicksburg, MS and Aug. 21st ini Morgan City, LA.

The Mississippi River Commission is heading back on the river.

The Commission's upcoming inspection trip provides an opportunity for Commissioners to hear directly from local stakeholders, partners, and the public about navigation, flood risk management, ecosystem restoration, and other issues affecting the Mississippi River and its tributaries.

Public meetings will be held at stops along the river, allowing attendees the opportunity to learn about current initiatives and share comments with the Commission.

If you are interested in the future of the Mississippi River, you are encouraged to attend a meeting in your area.
