I have to wholeheartedly thank Shafiq Bhai for being an amazing host. I truly enjoyed answering the wide variety of questions he had for me during the interview. Sartorial Elegance in Furniture- The KC Python Armchair.

I wanted contemporary fashion to be translated into furniture, but unlike fast fashion, each season’s pieces would be balanced with timeless qualities, making them age well and be a window into a certain genre or era of fashion. The way fashion matches the lifestyle and functional needs of the wearer, similarly I wanted to create furniture with both such aspects in mind.

I chose to do an armchair inspired from the idea of a continuous pattern morphing into a different color and shade, and decided upon using a python snake design. In nature, some pythons have lilac color skin, and I added this to gold color on a black base. The final design itself needed many trials to achieve for the most appropriate size and to ensure strength and durability of the design after going through an intense embroidery stitching process. The chair legs continued the gold theme as well.

how do you reinvent a timeless classic? The Jamdani fabric, declared a UNESCO Cultural Heritage, is a centuries old fabric native to Bangladesh. We utilised 3D printing and a lot of painstaking work to develop a fabric texture to this wall panel. A matte UV top coat was applied to give the eye catching sheen.
