Workspace!
This is #2! My paint set up. I have cheap paints, crappy brushes, and yes - that’s my bed and laundry in the corner!
I’m learning new techniques everyday! Gonna work on today for Skye.

What’s your Workspace look like?
The next week or two we will be looking at our work spaces! Today we’re at ´s home.
This is my sketching set-up. My tea is always full and I rarely forget a snack! Although I have a desk it’s full of computers and the chairs are uncomfortable so I take over the living room coffee table and listen to folk music.
I can’t wait to see what yours looks like! Show us by tagging with the heading Workspace!

Evolution - by
The picture on the left is one of the first ones I made this summer. The picture on the right I completed in November.
The goal of being a MatriArtist is to use the help of local like minded child rearing artists to not only complete your own projects, but to become better at your craft.
What is something you’ve improved at over the years?

Hoarfrost.
Noun.
A deposit of ice crystals on objects exposed to the free air, such as grass blades, tree branches, or leaves. It is formed by direct condensation of water vapour to ice at temperatures below freezing and occurs when air is brought to its frost point by cooling.
It’s cold and dreary in Saskatchewan during the long winters. But every once in awhile we wake up to hoarfrost on everything and our world is transformed into a magical winter wonderland.
How are you turning your lemons into lemonade?

Connection.
It’s an important part of being part of any kind of group. It’s the reason why the were formed - mothers connecting and supporting one another in their work. In their art. Because for some people, their art is their work.
Listening to the live broadcast this morning of reminded me once again of the importance of staying connected.
How do you stay connected? We were a group for 4. Since I’m in Canada, it’s now a group of 3. Two families were lucky enough to form a pod together for homeschooling their children together. The third is still able to visit having fire sides chats and keeping a safe distance. And me? I’ve sent the odd text message or two, and kept up my Facebook and IG page to keep people up to date on what’s going on.
Remember that connection is important.

Happy Sunday!
Remember - not everything you do has to be serious. It doesn’t have to be “a New York Bestseller”, the next Rembrandt, or a poem for the ages. Be willing to se silly and whimsical. Make something just for yourself.
Add a 3-D butterfly sticker onto the nose of a very serious looking portrait. Whatever makes you smile these days. Have your art move you in a way that is not your norm.
And as always, just keep going!

What is your art form? What media do you prefer?
The MATRIARTISTS were formed by 4 talented ladies: a couple of writers, a photographer, and myself . I’m still trying to find my niche. I’ve written a book that I’m still editing, I paint, I’m a master cake artist, and now I also sketch anime.
You don’t need to find a group that does exactly the same thing that you do. I’ve gotten amazing suggestions on my book edits from - a beautiful photographer, wonderful encouragement on my paintings from - a novelist, and even sold several cakes to !
The important thing isn’t what you do, it’s who you do it with! Keep encouraging each other to greater heights and success!
That’s what being is all about.

Welcome back! It’s Jodi again.. This week I’m finishing the “escape to Canada” story, with a mild focus on mental health.
By the end of summer, Selene’s passport was still not ready. However, we had also made the decision, based on schooling, to stay in Canada for the year. Just myself and the kids. To be honest it wasn’t just schooling. I also needed a mental health break. I needed familial connection. I needed a hug.
Our matriartist group, although we would still meet - outdoors only and 6 feet apart - just wasn’t enough for what I needed at that time. I needed an extra set of hands for the kids, a break from home schooling, and just... a hug. But that wasn’t possible (covid restrictions) and I am notoriously bad at asking for what I need.
I started watching and sketching anime when I returned to Canada. Something fun and therapeutic to keep my hands busy while I got myself set up.
This little guy I sketched after watching the anime movie “A Silent Voice.” I highly recommend it to anyone with kids that struggle with bullying and depression. It’s beautifully written and does an amazing job highlighting the pressures on both the bully and the bullied.
So, Here I am. In Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. Trying to keep up my art, while raising 3 kids away from their dad (he’s still in New York working).

If you're wondering HOW the MatriArtists do what we do—how we got started, when and where we find the time, and how we stay the course when life gets messy and chaotic—we've got a read for you! Fellow MatriArtist wrote up our story, and methodology (with some great, practical tips) in an article (manifesto?) on Medium, link below.
Until then, enjoy this, a pic of the most 70's of all ladies enjoying a 'lil quilting bee in Central Park, back when fashion was adorable, hair was long, and SISTERHOOD was STRONG!
