Revisiting past projects, our client wanted a bookcase in their newly renovated apartment.

A lot of measuring, sanding, and obsessing over details that most people will never notice. Which is exactly how I like it.

Clean lines, crisp white, and a finish worth writing home about.

Now, whether anyone actually reads the books is none of my business.
A little look at the work behind the finished product.

These two cabinet doors have been waiting patiently for their close-up.

Most of the kitchen is still looking pretty good. But the doors above the oven? They’ve had a front-row seat to every splash, splatter, and ambitious cooking decision since then.

They weren’t ready for retirement. They just needed a refresh.

So we cleaned them up, brought the finish back to life, and now it’s installation day. Which means holding a door overhead while lining up tiny hinges and pretending this is completely comfortable.

A little adjustment… another little adjustment… and we’re back in business.

Same kitchen, same cabinets—just two doors looking a lot less like they’ve been making the dinner.

A brownstone library, finished in red. Walls, ceiling, built-ins, trim—the whole thing.

And because nothing is ever as simple as “paint it red,” there was plenty of prep, refinishing, color testing, masking, spraying, and a few decisions made along the way.

The result? A room that definitely doesn’t need help starting a conversation.

Swipe through for the process. And yes, choosing the right red is harder than it looks.

Nothing makes you more aware of your elbows than carrying glass through somebody else’s apartment.
These are glass tops for a pair of nightstands. They help protect the wood finish from water glasses, hand cream, and people who are definitely meant to use a coaster.
You still get to see the wood. It just gets a little backup against everyday wear.
But first, we get them to the bedroom in one piece. Fairly important part of the process.

I promised to put the camera roll to work. Let’s start with an entrance.

Green paint, perfectly finished wood, and plenty of details worth getting right. This brownstone gave us fluted columns, turned spindles, and beautiful panelling to work with. The kind of details you slow down for.

A few finished views, a little of the mess in between, and a closer look at how it all came together.

I’ve condensed the process into a few swipes. You’re welcome.

Send this to a friend or colleague who appreciates a good brownstone. There’s more in the camera roll.

I’m better at finishing wood than remembering to post about it.

If you’ve been following along here, you’ve probably noticed.

I’m Jonathan, the man behind this account. Our craft spans three generations, and there’s a lot of work, knowledge, and process that I haven’t shared enough of.

I’m excited to change that.

I’ll be revisiting some favourite projects, taking you behind the scenes, and sharing tips and tricks on wood, finishes, restoration, and the details that make a difference.

From a much-loved piece of furniture to an entire interior, there’s always a story worth telling.

Stay tuned. And if you have a friend or colleague in design, architecture, or simply someone who appreciates thoughtfully crafted spaces, send this profile their way.

It’s about time I put the camera roll to work.
