Such a force of nature. It was always great being dressed by the rock couturier, having items picked seemingly out of air to put on. It was like getting dressed in a tornado and p**f you looked levels cooler than just a few moments prior. I still wear many timeless items hand picked by Jimmy and they always give me that little added confidence knowing where they originated. The Jolly Roger is the most famous pirate flag. The skull and cross bones came from the symbol used in ships' logs, where it represented death on board. It was first used on a pirate flag around 1700 and quickly became popular.

Few costume pieces are as instantly recognisable as Captain Jack Sparrow’s tricorn hat from Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003).

Worn by Johnny Depp throughout the film, the leather tricorn became a defining part of Jack’s look as he swaggered, schemed and sailed his way back towards the Black Pearl.

Costume designer Penny Rose worked closely with Depp on the character, with Depp specifically choosing a leather hat so Jack would stand apart from the other pirates on screen. Inside, the hat is handwritten with both “J Depp” and “Jack” - a brilliant little production detail from one of modern cinema’s most iconic characters.
More than 20 years later, Jack Sparrow’s silhouette is still unmistakable, and this hat is a huge part of the reason why.
