Grouphug Solar
At Grouphug Solar, we make ridiculously good looking solar panels that are easy for the average person to adopt.
Because renewable energy shouldn't be so complicated. Grouphug is a design collective that addresses the overwhelming problems that society faces. We’re a group of fiesty designers who want to create designs that make a positive impact on the world (even a tiny one). We produce an annual show during NYC Design Week around a big, relevant issue.
A little solar ASMR 🥰 Window Solar Chargers are $30 off all weekend yeeeehaw
Watch me assemble a Window Solar Charger in two minutes!! Did you know our unique charger is designed to be easily assembled and disassembled for repair 🛠️ ? One of the many sustainable design principles used by Industrial Designer & Founder .

EXCITING NEWS! 3 new frame colors are dropping next week!! Which one is your favorite?
Hand-painted on solid bamboo frames by me. I usually prefer to keep things simple, but these frames had some slight imperfections (scratches, bumps) and were begging for some color 🥰

Calling all Industrial Designers, Engineers, and Students!! Starting next week, you will be able to buy individual Grouphug solar modules for prototyping.
Is this exciting to you?! Please comment so we can get in touch.
Why sell solar modules?! We hope to inspire more designers and engineers to tinker with solar. Our unique, patented solar designs took years to perfect, now it's time to share it.
Disclaimer: This offering includes no frame, no battery, just a solar module to power whatever you dream up. The back of the modules have positive/negative leads to connect to. Create your own frame, 3D printed housing, there's no limit!

I started Grouphug with the goal of making renewable energy sexy and accessible. I love educating people about solar & sustainability in new and playful ways. I don't care if Earth Day has gotten corporate and greenwashed - I am choosing to take this Earth Day to feel hope & joy!! 🤩

THIS is a solar panel! It’s a special type of organic photovoltaic film that can be made in any shape. I was shocked when I got this sample. This is a real photo with my hands, not AI :) We can imagine solar clothing, curtains, stained glass windows, car exteriors.... the future of solar looks so f*cking cool. 🔥
What do ya think? What shape would you want? Let us know in the comments!

🌶 The future of solar is... SPICY!
New research suggests *spicy* solar panels might work more efficiently. Scientists from East China Normal University treated solar cells with capsaicin, the compound responsible for the mouth-burning heat of chili peppers. As a result, the solar cells were more efficient at converting sunlight into electricity! Full story on our blog - link in bio.
Our Story
Edit: Hi, I’m Krystal. A few years ago I started Grouphug to rally designers around horrific topics (energy crisis, gun violence, gender inequality) that need creative power. Grouphug was my side hustle for years & I recently left my job to make it my full time main squeeze! I’m feeling a mixture of confident & terrified. But, there will be ch-ch-ch-changes. Grouphug is evolving into a tech company focused on designing products for sustainability & social good. We’ll still put on an annual @nycxdesign show. What kinda tech products are we developing? You’ll just have to follow us to find out
-----
Before our 5th Grouphug show, Respect Me, opens I want to take a moment to explain the story behind it all:
The sentiment started in 2010. I had just graduated from Georgia Tech with a degree in Industrial Design and realized I didn’t want to be an industrial designer. Perfect timing.
