It’s opening weekend for the Dallas and the Kano Garden formal living room is a delightful room to be relished. Be sure to take in every detail, from the gorgeous andirons to unusual Laverne coffee table - she even wallpapered the bookcases!

Our wallpaper was inspired by an 18th century Japanese screen, and the textures and patterns Laura Lee chose make this an elegant and eclectic room

This 325-year-old, Louis XIV period work came to the gallery through Francis and Françoise Haiblet whose ancestors were the original commissioners. It is an outstanding example of what the French call regional furniture, a term that avoids the ambiguity of “provincial” or “country.” Such publication quality works of art furniture, from premier workshops in large regional cities, emblematic of the arts of their region, have nothing to do with simple country furniture. There is nothing rustic or clumsy about them, although they technically fall under the umbrella of provincial. This armoire (from the Latin armarium - the place where the arms are kept) is a stunning trace of the port city of Nantes circa 1700.
