I don’t normally post requests for support but this is an important cause. For the second year my wife Lisa and I will be riding in the Closer to Free ride to support the Smilow Cancer Hospital and Yale Cancer Center. 100% of the funds for this cause goes to cancer research and patient care.
The reason this is so important is that both Lisa and I are cancer survivors. Several years ago I went to the doctors with an ear ache and walked out with a stage 4 cancer diagnosis. Today I am over 4 years cancer free thanks to the many health care providers and research professionals.
This year, Lisa and I will be riding 65 miles to raise money to support the centers. please help us support this worthy cause. Donations can be made through the link in my bio and at www.closertofree.org.
Every little bit helps and I thank you in advance.
Working with some beautiful curly maple this week, doesn’t get much better and hopefully will have a couple of chairs ready for finishing.

Two Windsor sack backs; one made in 2002 and the other 2012. With a lot of use they are holding up very well.

Successful steam bending session for three sets of legs and some slats in preparation for an upcoming Brian Boggs chair class. Bent up some ash, cherry and oak. These will hand on the wall of the shop for several weeks in a drying form to set the shape.

So this is what the emerald ash borer does to trees earring away the cadmium which transfer the nutrients up and down the tree. There has been some good ash at the local mills because of this but it won’t last. Most of the ash in my area of NW Connecticut are standing dead.

I think I have a lumber problem, cutting up rough stock today to prep for some chairs and an upcoming Class. The real problem is my driveway is getting clogged. It’s a mix of hard maple, cherry, ash and elm. @ New Hartford, Connecticut

Great opportunity to copy this classic Early American rocker. Clinched rose head nails used to tack the arm post to the seat rung date the chair to the 1750’s. New ash splint seat by who stated there were several layers of seats. There looks to be multiple layers of paint so hard to say what the original color was. There was more than just Windsor’s for chairs back then. Looking forward to making a copy and using some of the design elements.
