Happy Africa Day! Today we celebrate 63 years of the African Union- an organization leading the charge to support all 54 African countries.

At Sumner Street Shea, we source our unrefined Shea butter and waxprint tote bags from Ghana. Our shea butter is produced in the northern regions of Ghana by women, harvesting the wild shea nuts by hand to churn into butter. The waxprint fabric is purchased in the open air markets of Accra and sewn into totes.

Five years ago today, Sumner Street Shea was born. An original idea I created during the 2020 Global Pandemic is now a business with 5 years experience. I have so many feelings and thoughts but overall, I am thankful to my lovely customers. Thank you for believing in me and trying a new skincare product. Thank you for trusting Sumner Street Shea!

I want to thank the Portland Vendor community of small business owners- local makers and artisans who have supported me at markets. Pop ups are a big part of Sumner Street Shea. Meeting other owners who are living their dreams and making it work inspires me to keep going 💐

I’ll be celebrating this milestone throughout the year with videos and in the newsletter. I’m excited to keep this journey going!
