Biscuit at 2:46 AM: “Mom, why are you part vampire?” 🧛‍♀️

It's this little dance my body likes to do. Sleep for 2–3 hours and then BING! Wide awake. Stay up for a bit, do some thinking, creating, contemplating life, and then eventually go back to bed for another few hours.

There’s actually a name for this! It's called biphasic sleep, historically referred to as "first sleep" and "second sleep."

Way back when, before electricity and modern lighting, people often slept in two separate stretches. They'd wake up in the middle of the night and spend an hour or two reading, writing, praying, meditating, playing instruments, visiting with others, or just enjoying the quiet before heading back to bed for their second sleep.

Suddenly, my entire existence makes a little more sense. 😉

Some of my most creative ideas happen in those ridiculously quiet hours. I'm not just lying there staring at the ceiling. I'm mentally redesigning a piece of furniture, dreaming up a new project, or suddenly feeling inspired to get up and actually WORK on something.

Or I'll grab my phone and start scrolling through the MLS. Before you know it, I'm completely caught up on what's for sale, what's just gone under contract, what's new to the market, and which houses I absolutely need to keep an eye on.

Apparently, 2 AM is prime time for furniture design, creative inspiration, and real estate market research. Who knew?

I've had plenty of people describe me as being part vampire because of the way I sleep. Maybe they're onto something. 🦇

I'm not saying I'm from another century, but it’s funny my sleep schedule didn't get the memo about modern times.

First sleep. Midnight creativity. MLS deep dive. Second sleep.

Just out here living my best little vampire-artist-real-estate-enthusiast life. 😆🌙

Made it to vote with 10 minutes to spare! No excuses. Even Biscuit is impressed with my voting sticker.
Today I’ve been to Newburyport for an orthodontist appointment then to Exeter to drop off Madeline for play practice then back up Rochester for a showing then race to the vet to pick up Biscuit’s prescription then race over to vote THEN I’ll be heading back down to Exeter to pick up Madeline from play practice at 9pm AND then we head home to Rochester. No excuses. (By the way my wrist is burning from all the driving)

I'm not sure I'm ready to make the commitment to buy a new refrigerator today, but apparently my refrigerator might have other plans.
I put a thermometer inside before heading out to a real estate showing, and now we're checking the damage.
So, is it completely dead, or is there still hope? What's your prediction? Lowe's Home Improvement

Sometimes, the best thrift store finds aren't really about what you buy. They're about the memories they bring back. ❤️

The other day, I was browsing my local Goodwill when I spotted this vintage covered bridge artwork. I was immediately drawn to it and I’ll tell you why.

First, because it was a covered bridge. My late mother was absolutely OBSESSED with covered bridges. If she could find a covered bridge on just about anything, you better believe it would eventually make its way into our home. It was one of her things, and seeing one always makes me think of her.

Second, I absolutely loved the frame! That chunky, vintage wood look? Yes, please! I think the frame alone was worth the $10 I paid for the entire piece.

But the sentimental value? You simply can't put a price on that.

I decided to hang it in what Madeline and I call our "Cozy Room." It's a little bit of everything in there. Half is our cozy space where Madeline and I relax, and where she often does her homework, and the other half is my little business headquarters with my desk, laptop, and printer.

I hung the covered bridge right below my mother's self portrait, a portrait an artist drew of her when she was just eight years old, back in 1959. I have to admit, it looks like it was always meant to be there. It fits perfectly with the room's mid century, vintage, abstract vibes, along with all the plants and cozy touches.

I'm also sharing a photo of my mom when she came to visit me in Florida while I was attending college. One Christmas, I gave her a covered bridge calendar, and this is a picture of her holding it. ❤️

Seeing that photo alongside my new little thrift store treasure makes this find even more special.

THIS is one of the million reasons I love thrifting!

You never know what you're going to come across. You never know when something sitting on a shelf at Goodwill is going to catch your eye, take you down memory lane, and bring someone you miss just a little bit closer.

Ten dollars for a piece of art. A lifetime of memories attached to it.

I'd say that's a pretty incredible thrift find. ❤️

Last night, I watched my girl sing a solo to “Helpless” from Hamilton in her high school choir, and I couldn’t help but feel so proud watching her shine. ❤️

There’s something so special about being a parent and watching your child discover their gifts on their own. Seeing them find what they love, grow in confidence, and reach little milestones along the way is such a beautiful thing. You get to watch them become more and more themselves, one moment at a time.

Then today, lo and behold Facebook memories reminded me of this little goofball from seven years ago. I was taking a picture of an antique chalkboard I had refinished, and there she was being her perfectly goofy, wild child self.

Madeline has always had this fun, playful, witty, slightly mischievous spirit. She can be shy and reserved around people who don’t know her well, but those who get to see the other side of her know just how funny, silly, and downright fun she is to be around.

Looking at that memory and then thinking about her singing solo last night reminded me just how much she’s grown. Her confidence, her talents, and the little milestones she’s reaching make my mama heart so happy. 🥹

The thing I love most? Somewhere in all that growing up, that wild child spirit is still there. I hope it always is. ❤️

Me: Just going grocery shopping. 🛒
Also me: Sees the cutest little dog in the car next to us and immediately starts speaking fluent baby talk. 😂
I have no self control when it comes to cute dogs. 🐾💕

I was feeling bad that I couldn’t rake up the tons acorns in my front yard because of my injured wrist but little did I know, I was actually hosting an ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT BUFFET for 10 hungry deer!
These 10 guests showed up last night and had themselves an absolute FEAST! No reservations, no waiting list, and apparently, no complaints about the service!
Who knew my laziness (okay, fine, my injury! 😜) would turn my front yard into the hottest restaurant in town?!
I’ve learned something new: deer LOVE acorns, and they can be an important part of their diet in the fall. So I guess Mother Nature had a plan for that mess all along!
Moral of the story: Sometimes what you can’t get done turns out to be exactly what someone else needed.
