Pyrography has always facilitated me and so I wanted to incorporating it with my carvings. This is my first attempt at doing just that and honestly I’m really happy with how it turned out. I’ve learned many years ago not to be intimidated by what you don’t know and never be afraid of trying it regardless. You never know unless you try.

Sometimes I find species of wood in my shop that I just can’t identify. I believe this vase may be made of Mahogany or Sapele, or I’m totally off, which is almost always the case 😂. Anyhow, I first turned with the lathe and then carved it using shaping wheeI with my angle grinder. I then burned some texture at the bottom to bring a hint of interest. Fun little vase.

If you’ve followed me for a while, you know how much I love carving movement in my pieces. This Cherry bowl is no exception however, I gave it a little extra texture and interest at the bottom by burning it.
The bowl was initially turned and then carved with an angle grinder using a 4.5” shaping wheel.

Picasso, Van Gogh and all the best abstract expressionists artists throughout history just can’t compare to the originality of Mother Nature. I mean, come on. This small bowl has so much character with the grain patterns and colors throughout the bowl that it is simply incredible. Nature always amazes me.
