Just finished this pretty massive set of built-ins for a neighbor. Turned out great, they love all the extra storage!

installed two large cabinets at the Buchanan Log Home site where I had previously installed a large built-in set of shelving for their new Historical Research Center. These cabinets are large (48W x 36H x 30D). The one on the left is a storage cabinet with three pull out shelves, and the one on the right is a map case for their large historical map books. There will be a 2 inch thick wood countertop installed on top of the cabinets, with space for a researcher or two between the cabinets.

I just finished making some flag cases. One holds the flag that draped my father-in-law’s casket, he was a Navy veteran. Another holds a flag that flew over the US Capital on the occasion of my 50th birthday.

These are different sized flags as I came to learn. The Veteran’s flag is 5’ by 9.5’, but the Capital flag is 5’ by 8’. This means I had to make two different sized cases.

The flag cases are made with walnut wood and finished with satin gel topcoat.

I just finished a custom kitchen island for a client in the Brentwood, TN local area. Made with oak plywood and hard wood, it will feature a small sink with instant hot water and filter, and have some electrical outlets installed. The stone top will be added after it is stained and finished. Raised panels for the doors and drawers and endcap through shelves.

I made these two Unity crosses in my woodshop this weekend. They are made from walnut and maple. Pretty cool, and an interesting project. I will be making more of these of different sizes and wood combinations!

I made these crosses in my woodshop this weekend. They are called Layered Crosses and have three types of wood; walnut, maple, and padauk. There is also a bit of text describing the significance of the three woods in these crosses.

Now I have a bunch of cutting boards ready to finish. Making boards makes a lot of sawdust! You can see that sawdust that didn’t make it into the collector. I always clean up after each phase of a project so that I start with a clean work surface. When people ask me what I did on the weekend I usually reply “I was making sawdust”. But after cleaning my dust collector just look at the sawdust! The pile on the game from the filter, which keeps me from breathing it into my lungs, a GOOD thing!

Continuing my weekend in the garaging making more cutting boards. Yesterday was glue up day; today was planing the boards. Here is a short video showing this process.
