Some designs catch your eye; others keep rewarding a closer look. Copeland’s Exeter extension table does both. Its sharply angled legs hold the solid-wood top in a delicate balance, so the surface seems to hover. A self-storing leaf glides out from underneath, keeping the lines uninterrupted when you’re not hosting the whole crew.
We saw the magic firsthand at Copeland Furniture Camp in Vermont, where we met the craftsman who assembles Exeter’s Easy-Stow mechanism. Around the shop they call him “Batman,” and—cape or no cape—his precision makes opening the table smooth enough to do with one hand.
