Solid hardwood might look still, but it’s always responding to the environment around it. As temperature and humidity change, wood can expand and contract across the grain. It’s a natural part of working with real hardwood and something we have to think about when designing and building furniture.

How many people can you comfortably seat at your dining table? Counting chairs will only get you so far. You also need to think about the space each person actually takes up, how close everyone will be sitting, the size of your place settings, and whether you want room for serving dishes in the middle.
