Objects tell stories. All of our projects rely on the layers beyond the furniture. It’s what gives our work personality and warmth. And it’s those objects that tell our client’s stories. Curating the final layers of a home is perhaps my favorite part, but to do it well and make it meaningful takes time, a large collection, and a good eye.

It’s these colder weeks that always get me rethinking my own shelves just in time for the holidays!

It’s as easy as 1…2…3… for us!

My clients started with a new home scattered with large pieces of furniture. Items they liked, but weren’t tied to. They knew something was wrong, but couldn’t figure out what. (See photo 3)

What was wrong? Scale.

While design is an art form, there are decisions that are formulaic and can be most clearly measured by how a space makes you feel. It’s something we work on with every client to make sure an item not only fits but also works!

Before our install day, we talked about where they should move existing furniture and how to hang artwork. They did a great job following our rather specific guidance before install day. But something still wasn’t right. (See Photo 2)

What was wrong? Balance.

When putting art over a table surface, we almost always like to see artwork narrower than the piece of furniture. It’s a small difference but that’s the world we live in, bringing homes to greatness!
