Ten years of Carolina sun and rain will do this to mahogany.

These arched entry doors had gone blotchy and gray β€” dark water stains across the middle, bare wood on the lower rails. We brought them back to the warm, even color mahogany is supposed to have, and sealed them to hold up to the weather.

Would you have kept this warm amber tone or gone a shade darker?

Sun and rain wreck exterior doors faster than anything else in your house.

The arched front door had weathered down to bare, gray wood. The French doors had a dark red finish that was hiding the grain. I stripped both down to raw wood, masked off the glass, and refinished them on site in a warmer, natural tone with a UV-protective exterior topcoat.

Same doors, just brought back to life. They didn't need replacing.

Which one's your favorite β€” the arched front door or the French doors?

Same client. Same paint. Different piece.

This Lane cedar chest came in with a worn stained finish β€” scratched top, tired edges. It's part of the same set as the piece I posted yesterday, so it got the same painted finish to tie the room together. Cedar lining inside stays untouched.

Would you have kept the original stain, or gone painted like this? Stain or paint?

When my client picked this color, I'll admit, I hesitated. 🍷

Then they pointed at the top.

That fabric has been set into this vintage vanity all along. Instead of fighting it, they chose to match the whole piece to it: carvings, legs, mirror frame, all of it. One color, head to toe, and suddenly the fabric makes sense.

Bold? Yes. Boring? Never. And it was the right call.

So settle it for me: is this w**e, plum, or mauve? πŸ‘‡

The Carolina sun is brutal on an exterior door β€” and this mahogany entry door was showing every bit of it.

The finish had gone dull and faded, hiding the grain on one of the best woods you can put on a front door. I refinished it and brought back the depth and color mahogany is known for, so it greets the whole street again instead of looking tired.

Be honest β€” natural wood front door, or painted? πŸ‘‡

Six hand-carved panels. Every petal, curl, and leaf worked by hand.

These antique doors stand at the entrance of the historic Elks Lodge in Hendersonville, NC. Years of weather had faded them to a dry, uneven orange. We sanded them down, worked stain into every carved recess so the detail reads from across the parking lot, and sprayed on a protective topcoat to bring back the depth.

Original honey tone or this deep brown β€” which would you have picked for these doors?

Every piece that leaves this shop goes through the same two hands.

Restoration, refinishing, custom builds, cabinet finishing. Sanding, spraying, stripping, rebuilding. It all happens right here in Spartanburg, one piece at a time. No assembly line and no handing it off.

If it's sitting in your house and you've thought "someone could bring that back," that's what I do.

What's waiting on you: a family heirloom that needs saving, or a piece you want built from scratch?

Short on seating at the island? This half-round extension added room for three more stools without a full remodel. A pedestal base keeps the legroom open and makes it look like it's always been there.

Would you add one to your kitchen, or keep the island as-is? πŸ‘‡
