83.5m² Minimalist Apartment: When “Just Enough” Becomes a Form of Luxury

In today’s fast-paced world, many families embrace minimalism – a lifestyle where everything is just enough: simple, warm, and thoughtfully functional. The 83.5m² three-bedroom apartment of Mr. Loc’s family in Hanoi is a perfect example. With careful planning, the architect and the PortLand Furniture team optimized every square meter, transforming a modest space into a bright, airy, and highly practical home for five.

The living room features a recessed wall system with a floating TV panel and display cabinets – a design that feels both refined and elegant. The kitchen, bar, and dining area are seamlessly connected, maximizing natural light and integrating modern appliances for a tidy and convenient flow of living. Each bedroom is thoughtfully arranged: the children’s room includes a bunk bed and full-height storage, while the master bedroom enjoys soft daylight and a calm, soothing atmosphere. Every detail speaks of functionality and quiet luxury – the essence of minimalist living.

This house is not just a place to live—it is a symbol of my independence and resilience after divorce. Seven years after parting ways, I finally have a home of my own. Life, much like the cycle of the sun and moon in a single day, shifts between light and darkness. Everyone goes through difficult times, and I am no exception.

In the early days after my divorce, I was filled with fear and anxiety, at times feeling as if my entire world had collapsed. But as time passed, I came to realize that life does not show mercy to weakness; what we can control is how we face it. I remember a saying: “A day spent in sorrow is still a day, and a day spent in joy is also a day.” Since time waits for no one, why not welcome each day with optimism? Negativity only drains us, while optimism allows us to find hope in adversity.

Now, after seven years, I finally have a 152-square-meter home, with renovation costs of around 320,000 RMB (approximately 1 billion VND). It is fully equipped with appliances, doors, flooring, and hidden finishing works. To me, this house is more than just shelter—it is proof of my independence and a sanctuary of comfort whenever I feel weary. Every corner carries my love for life and my vision for the future. Rearranging furniture over time has become a joy, as if pressing a reset button and starting anew.

My dear friend, no matter your current situation, remember this: apart from life and death, there is no obstacle you cannot overcome. When faced with challenges, try to see them from another perspective. Do not trap yourself in pain, for that only deepens the loss. Your life belongs to you alone, and only you can take control of it. So hold your head high, trust in your own strength, and believe in your ability to endure.

Let us learn to embrace the present, cherish the people before us, and appreciate what we have. Do not let “just getting through the day” become the standard for your life—make it something worth looking forward to each day. Pack away the burdens, move forward with joy, and you will discover life’s true beauty, living it with color and meaning.

In today’s fast-paced and demanding world, we all need to reclaim our own peace and happiness. Let life be more than mere survival; let it be an ongoing journey of discovery and delight. Because in the end, we all reach life’s final chapter—so why not make the journey rich with laughter and beauty, instead of sorrow and regret?

A young woman has amazed many by turning her tiny 25m² apartment into a surprisingly spacious and functional home with a simple yet unexpected secret. Making a small apartment feel airy, modern, and practical is no easy task, and organizing such compact spaces has always been a challenge for architects. The question is: how can one create a fully functional home that stores countless belongings while still remaining comfortable and relaxing to live in?

If you run out of ideas, trust talented architects to transform your space—they know how to unlock the magic of small living. The key to this apartment’s design lies in removing partition walls. Despite the lack of dividers, the layout remains clear, with distinct areas that are easy to identify. Furniture is placed along the walls, leaving plenty of room for movement.

This arrangement not only provides a sense of openness but also makes it easy to welcome guests. Another clever design choice was to use a concrete wall as a striking feature, while keeping the rest of the walls and ceiling white to maximize brightness and spaciousness. Large windows play an essential role, while natural wood furniture, rather than common metal or plastic, adds warmth and depth to the space.

The owner of this unique home is Li Zhou, a 30-year-old artist from Shenzhen, China. Despite its modest size, the apartment accommodates a bedroom, art studio, family library, kitchen, and dining area. Most of the furniture is crafted from warm-toned natural wood, bringing charm and comfort. Curtains were intentionally avoided, as the owner felt they would make the apartment feel cluttered and dark; instead, simple blinds allow for soft light control when needed.

The kitchen features a clean white finish with a gray countertop, paired with a teak wood dining set. Though compact, the apartment is fully equipped and brimming with personality—an inspiring space that fuels creativity and excitement for its owner every single day.

When designing a home, many people tend to assume that the living room must serve as the main communal space, the balcony is only for laundry, and the bathroom must have a separate wet and dry area. While these layouts meet basic needs, rethinking and redefining the functions of each space can lead to surprising discoveries that make the home more efficient and engaging — as seen in the house of this three-generation family.

This 130-square-meter apartment, home to a family of six and their dog, features three bedrooms, two living rooms, and two bathrooms. The homeowners had clear requirements for the space: a preference for Japanese style, a desire to divide the bathroom into four separate zones, ample storage space, and a strong passion for cooking.

Overall, the apartment had a solid layout but lacked a welcoming area at the entrance. Therefore, the design focused on enhancing the entryway and optimizing the space to suit the family’s lifestyle needs.

The dining table serves as a “small oasis” within the 65-square-meter apartment. Once a challenging area to arrange, it has been transformed into a standout feature where the homeowner can enjoy meals while relaxing with a view.

Japanese home design is highly regarded for being minimalist yet optimized, refined yet still meeting all daily needs.

Sometimes when watching Japanese movies or TV shows, you’ll notice many homes are not large, especially rental houses in central areas. However, what’s remarkable is that no matter how small the space is, these homes never feel cramped. The Japanese still live comfortably with all essential items inside. This is all thanks to clever and scientific design and arrangement, making the living space extremely efficient and well-organized.
