Every piece we make starts somewhere real.

Six of our pieces, six corners of the country that shaped them, long before any of them found their place indoors.

Fabric doesn’t need to match to belong in the same room, but it does need to share logic.

Same tone family, same era, same weight. That’s the version of pairing that holds looks together.

Some pieces earn their keep just by catching the light differently.

The Fluted Coffee Table achieves that with her vertical grooves running the full base, changing character depending on where you’re standing and what time of day it is. She’s decorative without being delicate.

At R18,499, she’s the kind of piece that rewards a second look.

We don’t always know how a piece settles into someone’s life until they tell us themselves.

Thank you for the kind words and for choosing JVB in the first place.

Every joint in this workshop could’ve been rushed. Nobody rushed it.

That’s the part that doesn’t show up in a spec sheet.

There’s no going back once you’ve sat in the right chair. Eaten at the right table. Placed your mug on the right coffee table. Relaxed into the right sofa. Slept in the right bed.

It’s not really about the piece, but more about what it resets in you. Proportion, weight, finish, comfort. Once your eye and body know what those feel like when done properly, everything approximate just stops working the way it pretended it did.

Some furniture asks you to admire it.
Marbella expects to be useful, too.

Arabescato marble, a considered frame and proportions that give everything its place; keys, books, flowers, whatever tends to accumulate on the way through the door.

Designed for the entrance, the hallway or wherever a little more presence is called for.

From R20,999, Marbella is a study in doing functional beautifully.

Every big purchase has its doubters — usually you, at 11pm, three tabs deep.

The argument fades. The piece doesn’t. That’s really the whole case for buying something properly made instead of something “fine”.

A room can be perfectly symmetrical and still feel unbalanced. Symmetry and balance aren’t automatically linked.

Two identical lamps either side of a bed is symmetry. A single large lamp on one side and a plant plus a small stack of books on the other can be balance — different objects, similar visual mass, same sense of order.

Rooms that rely purely on symmetry can feel formal, even stiff. The best-considered spaces usually mix both.
