Boundary data sources

Chicago community areas

Community-area boundaries are provided by the City of Chicago Data Portal, accessed 7 October 2026. They are used to check whether listings fall within an area. See the City's data terms of use.

This site provides applications using data that has been modified for use from its original source, www.cityofchicago.org, the official website of the City of Chicago. The City of Chicago makes no claims as to the content, accuracy, timeliness, or completeness of any of the data provided at this site. The data provided at this site is subject to change at any time. Philadelphia neighbourhoods

Neighbourhood boundaries are derived from Robert Cheetham / OpenDataPhilly, data updated 24 April 2024, accessed 7 October 2026, under CC BY 4.0. This is a curated, non-official source. Reviewed polygons are converted to the database geometry format while preserving existing neighbourhood definitions.

Houston super neighbourhoods

Boundaries are provided by the City of Houston Planning and Development Department, accessed 7 October 2026. The data are in the public domain. The City provides GIS data for general reference and does not warrant accuracy, completeness or suitability for legal, engineering or surveying use. Reviewed polygons are converted to the database geometry format.

San Diego neighbourhoods

Boundaries are provided by City of San Diego Police / SanGIS, updated 6 October 2026, accessed 7 October 2026, under ODC Public Domain Dedication and Licence. These are police reference neighbourhoods and do not represent legal community boundaries. Reviewed polygons are converted to the database geometry format; fragments sharing the same source identifier are combined where required to preserve the existing neighbourhood definition.

Los Angeles neighbourhoods

Boundaries derive from the Los Angeles Times Mapping L.A. V6 export, publisher revision 5acc817, accessed 7 October 2026. This historical, non-official source preserves the existing neighbourhood definitions. Polygons are converted to database format; original sibling overlaps remain and ambiguous listing points are excluded.

The boundary data and our downloadable selected boundaries are shared under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0. Changes: 381 polygons selected, coordinates converted from NAD83 to WGS84, then stored in database geometry format. No topology repair or manual coordinate adjustment was made. The original Zillow attribution and share-alike terms are retained.

Original archived Zillow neighbourhood definitions

Selected historical neighbourhood boundaries come from original state shapefiles linked by Zillow's neighbourhood boundaries page, with its January 2013 archived publisher terms. Individual ZIP archive dates differ; an archive capture does not establish a survey date. These source definitions preserve equivalent existing directory footprints.

The 556 selected original-source polygons are redistributed under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0. Changes: selection and conversion from NAD83 to WGS84 and database geometry format. Full polygons are preserved, without clipping, topology repair or manual coordinate changes. Publication of source data does not imply that every selected area is enabled for listing membership.

San Francisco Planning neighbourhoods

Historical directory footprints are reviewed against San Francisco Planning neighbourhood notification boundaries, accessed 9 October 2026, under the Open Data Commons Public Domain Dedication and License 1.0. Complete equivalent source polygons are converted to database geometry format. Invalid source polygons remain held.

Historical U.S. Census place boundaries

Additional reviewed historical definitions use original 2010 and 2011 TIGER/Line place boundaries from the U.S. Census Bureau, accessed 9 October 2026. The federal public-domain source, original archive checksum and full polygon are retained for each reviewed definition.

Reviewed whole-place directory areas use original U.S. Census Bureau 2019 TIGER/Line place boundaries, accessed 9 October 2026. Historical footprints preserve the existing directory definitions. Federal GEOIDs identify the existing places; their names, points and administrative relationships are retained.

Census materials are in the public domain under the 2019 technical documentation, sections 1.5 and 1.6. TIGER/Line is a registered trademark of the Census Bureau and is used here to describe the source data. These statistical boundaries are not legal land descriptions. Data are converted directly from the original federal shapefiles to database geometry using the NAD83 to WGS84 (1) operation, which retains the numeric coordinates and has a stated accuracy of four metres. Full-footprint comparisons do not establish positional accuracy.

Richmond Planning neighbourhoods

Reviewed neighbourhood boundaries come from the City of Richmond Planning and Development Review, accessed 9 October 2026. The City makes its open data available for reuse under City Code sections 2-1351 and 2-1357(b). Complete equivalent source polygons are converted to database geometry format, preserving the existing directory definitions. Source geometry is not clipped, repaired or manually adjusted. Invalid or differing source polygons remain held.

Baltimore neighbourhood statistical areas

Reviewed boundaries come from the City's 2010 neighbourhood statistical areas and 2020 neighbourhood statistical areas, published on Open Baltimore and accessed 9 October 2026. These City datasets are available for reuse under Baltimore City Code section 9-8(b). The selected source vintage, feature identifier and original checksum are retained for each definition. Complete equivalent source polygons are converted to database geometry format without clipping, topology repair or manual coordinate adjustment. The existing directory definitions and native place identities are preserved.
