💙 A family heirloom given a new lease on life! 💙
There’s something really special about being asked to restore a piece of furniture that has been part of a family for generations. This beautiful old grandfather chair has so much character and history, and we’re thrilled to have been able to bring it back to life.
Believed to date from around 1870–1900, this Australian-made cedar chair had seen better days, including a fair bit of dog chewing! 🐾 But along with the damage was some beautiful timber and intricate carving that deserved to be saved.
Our clever timber worker restored the timber, then we reupholstered the chair in a stunning Mokum patterned velvet that complements the rich cedar and really brings out the beauty of the carving. The finished result is just gorgeous!
One of the interesting discoveries along the way was an old CSR hessian bag tucked inside the chair. It gave us a little clue to its Australian origins and was a lovely reminder of how much history can be hidden inside an old piece of furniture.
We love that this chair can now continue its story as a treasured family heirloom, rather than being lost to time and wear.
A little bit of history, a lot of character, and a whole lot of love in bringing this old beauty back to life. 🌿🥰
