We've been through the stockroom and it's time to make some space. 🌿

Pine forest, rocky shoreline, back garden. Fold it up, carry it out, set it down wherever the afternoon takes you. That's the whole point of a good folding chair.

Director's chairs, deckchairs, stools. Teak frames, French-woven stripes, and no particular plans.

Some afternoons don't need much more than this.

There's a reason we couldn't go past this one.

Place aux Herbes is the market square at the heart of Uzès, running since 1583, framed by stone arcades that turn gold in the afternoon light. We spent time in that town while we were living in France, and this fabric just took us straight back, that same freshness in the air, in the produce, in the light bouncing off the stone.

It's very true to how Les Toiles du Soleil designs, actually. So many of their fabrics are named for real places, drawing their palette directly from the landscape, the architecture, the everyday colour of a specific corner of France. This one takes its greens, almond, olive and taupe straight from the market stalls and the shuttered streets of the First Duchy.

For us, it was simple: a fabric that captures a place we loved, in colours we couldn't stop looking at.

Cayrou.

The name comes from the terracotta brick that's been part of Catalan building for centuries, the same warm red and ochre you still see on rooftops all through that part of southern France, and even in the large terracotta floor tiles found in so many of the houses there.

Choosing Cayrou was an homage to our everyday landscape while living in France, terracotta rooftops were just part of the view most days. For me, it was the colour. For Thibaud, it was home.

Through its stripes, this fabric is really a tribute to that regional craftsmanship, and to an architectural style deeply rooted in Catalan culture.

Cayrou 180cm is in stock, online now, indoors or out. A dining table, a deckchair, a cushion, wherever it lands is really only limited by your imagination.

We’re incredibly excited to be taking the reins of this beautiful brand and bringing it into its next chapter.

The fabrics you know and love are still at the heart of ici et là — timeless, tactile and made to be lived with. We’ve already introduced new fabrics, colours and ideas to the collection, with plenty more to come. And beyond the fabric, our deckchairs and furniture pieces are still made the same considered way, built to be lived in, not just looked at.
