📍 Today's on-site fit testing location: a residential build in Brisbane 🏗️

Our mobile fit testing van comes right to your site, so your crew can get tested without leaving the job.

We cover Brisbane and beyond, including Ipswich, Toowoomba, the Gold Coast, Far North NSW and the rest of Queensland.

We carry a range of disposable and reusable masks, so we can find the right fit for every worker.

Why fit testing matters
A tight-fitting respirator only protects you if it seals properly to your face.

Without a good seal, contaminated air goes around the filter instead of through it, and the wearer is exposed to hazards like silica dust and asbestos.

We provide quantitative fit testing to AS/NZS 1715 using OHD AeroFit machines.

I saw Christmas decorations on sale yesterday.

It reminded me of the end of year is coming, but also before that a major change in how worker exposure is measured.

Welding stainless steel? Your respirator needs to fit. 🔥

On 1 December 2026, Australia's workplace exposure standards become Workplace Exposure Limits (WELs), and welding fume is one of the hazards in the spotlight.

Stainless steel and chrome welding releases hexavalent chromium (Chromium VI), a known cause of lung cancer.

It's classed as a non-threshold carcinogen, which means there's no level of exposure that's considered completely risk-free. The goal is to keep exposure as low as possible.

Work through the hierarchy of controls:

1️⃣ Eliminate or substitute where you can, for example by changing the process, materials or consumables

2️⃣ Use engineering controls like local exhaust ventilation and fume extraction

3️⃣ Monitor the air so you know what your welders are actually breathing

4️⃣ Provide correctly selected respiratory protection as the last line of defence That last line only works if it fits.

A tight-fitting respirator under a welding helmet must seal against a clean-shaven face, and that seal needs to be verified with a fit test at least once a year.

If your welders can't get a reliable seal, a powered air-purifying respirator (PAPR) welding helmet may be the better option.

At Keys Testing Services, we provide quantitative fit testing to AS/NZS 1715 using OHD AeroFit machines, at our Nundah clinic or on-site in your workshop with our mobile van, across Brisbane, Ipswich, Toowoomba, the Gold Coast, Far North NSW and the rest of Queensland.

First fit test, what to expect

Nervous about your first mask fit test? You’re not alone, and there’s nothing to worry about.

Here’s what happens at Keys Fit Testing Services in Nundah:

We check the mask you need tested (such as an N95 or P2) and we take the time to show you how to fit it correctly.

You complete a few simple exercises, like breathing normally, turning your head and talking, while we check the seal.

If the mask fits, you receive your fit test report. If it doesn’t, we’ll talk you through the next steps.

The whole appointment takes about 10 to 15 minutes.

Tip: Please arrive clean shaven. Facial hair stops tight-fitting masks from sealing properly.

Our customers often tell us the test was “stress free,” and that’s exactly what we aim for.

Stubble = leaks.

Here's why 👇
A beard hair is around 100 microns thick.

Silica dust is under 10 microns.
Welding fume is mostly under 1 micron.

Even a day or two of growth lifts your respirator's seal off your skin, and contaminated air goes around the filter instead of through it. 😷

📋 AS/NZS 1715 says tight-fitting respirators must seal against bare skin.

That means clean-shaven for your fit test AND every shift you wear one.

✅ Shave before your fit test

✅ Shave before every shift

✅ Can't stay clean-shaven? Ask us about PAPRs (powered air-purifying respirators, no face seal needed)

✅ Retest every year, or when your face, weight or mask changes

"Why do we call ourselves the most trusted fit testing service in South East Queensland?" 🤔💭

As Steve puts it: it’s not a title we gave ourselves—it’s what our clients call us.

Here’s why 👇

Our roots are in the asbestos industry. In that line of work, there is zero room for guesswork.

When you're dealing with extreme airborne hazards, a mask that almost fits isn't enough—your workforce needs to be 100% protected, every single time.

We took that exact high-stakes safety mindset and built Keys Fit Testing Services around it.

Why businesses across SE QLD trust us:

🦺 High-Risk DNA: Backgrounded in asbestos safety, we know what real protection looks like on the ground.

🚐 Mobile Testing Vans: We bring lab-grade quantitative testing straight to your job site or facility.

⏱️ Fast & Accurate: Next-gen quantitative fit testing that gets your crew tested and back to work in minutes.

📜 100% Compliance: Instant digital certifications mapped to AS/NZS 1715:2009 standards.

Keys Fit Testing Services: Australia’s most trusted and experienced respiratory fit testing team! 🦺

Don't just take our word for it—ask our clients.

From Tier-1 construction leaders, universities, and government departments to the small, family-owned tradies who depend on us when they need it most, our reputation has been hard-earned looking after teams of every size.

20 years ago, Steve Keys and Louis Trypas identified a critical gap while running labor hire for the asbestos removal industry: respiratory protection compliance.

In high-risk environments with silica dust and toxic fibers, a "close enough" mask fit just doesn't protect workers.

To help our clients meet strict WHS/OH&S regulations, we built our Registered Training Organisation, Keys Human Resources (RTO 31911), and launched Keys Fit Testing Services.

Fast forward two decades, and we’re continuing to lead the way across Brisbane, Queensland, and NSW:

⭐ 20+ Years of Proven Expertise: Trusted protection against asbestos, silica dust, and toxic airborne hazards.

⚡ New OHD AeroFit Fleet: Upgraded with cutting-edge OHD AeroFit technology for fast, ultra-precise Quantitative Fit Testing (QNFT) and instant digital certificates.

📜 AS/NZS 1715 Standards: Fully accredited, RTO-backed compliance you can rely on during safety audits.

📍 Mobile On-Site or In-House: We bring our mobile testing units directly to your site across QLD & NSW, or you can visit our Brisbane testing facility in Nundah!

Whether you’re managing a massive infrastructure project or protecting a tight-knit family crew, proper fit testing saves lives.

Get your team tested, compliant, and protected today! 👇

06/10/2026

If your crew wears respirators on site, 1 December 2026 needs to be on your radar right now.

🗓️⚠️Safe Work Australia is officially swapping Workplace Exposure Standards (WES) for strict, legally enforceable Workplace Exposure Limits (WEL).

The word LIMIT isn’t a suggestion—it’s an absolute legal ceiling that cannot be exceeded.

What’s changing?📉 Lower Exposure Limits: Dusts, fumes, and chemicals you deal with every day—like softwood dust, silica, bitumen fumes, and carbon monoxide—are getting significantly tighter legal thresholds.

🚫 New Contaminants Added: Includes Diesel Particulate Matter (DPM at 0.01 mg/m³) and flour dust.❌ Zero Safe Limit for 33 Carcinogens: Including Chromium VI.

Exposure must be eliminated or minimised as far as reasonably practicable.

What this means for business owners & HSE managers:When airborne exposure limits drop, the protection your respirators must deliver goes UP.A P2, N95, half-face, or full-face mask

ONLY works if it seals completely to your worker's face. An untested mask is just a false sense of security—and a massive WHS liability.

How keeps your site compliant:

We make compliance effortless so you can focus on running your job site or facility:

✅ On-Site Mobile Van Testing: We bring our lab-grade testing unit straight to your project or site anywhere in South East QLD. Zero travel downtime for your crew.

✅ Nundah Testing Hub: Need single-worker onboarding or new hire testing? Send them directly to our Brisbane HQ.

✅ Next-Gen OHD AeroFit Tech: Fast 2-to-3 minute quantitative testing that measures real-time mask fit without messy chemicals or aerosols.

✅ Instant Digital Certificates: Audit-ready compliance docs sent straight to your phone or inbox.

Don’t wait until the compliance deadline to find out your team’s masks aren't offering real protection.
