Slow down, and the finish tells you everything.

Three material decisions, shown in three movements. The island bench’s edge, traced by hand. A cabinet door, drawn open in one pull and held through its soft-close before the cut. A handle, worked to a full drawer extension.

Three decisions behind this Greenbank kitchen, explained on site with Chloe.

A Santorini Gold benchtop with a double bullnose edge on the island. Handles changed mid-build to keep every piece consistent. And behind the appliance pocket doors, a Tasmanian oak interior chosen to sit against the kitchen while matching the timber through the rest of the home.

Level X, with Tara Design Director at Designed by TW, on working with Royale from start to finish: a design that pushed boundaries at every turn, and a team that treated none of it as a problem to work around. When issues came up on site, Royale brought the expertise to solve them on the spot.

As Tara puts it: nothing was impossible. That’s the standard Levi and the team hold themselves to on every project.

At the CALLI, the goal here is simple and cohesive, even with plenty going on.

Curved stone and fluted panels are going in to soften the hard lines, giving the cabinetry the feel of custom furniture rather than standard units.

Hand-laminated curves, a Venetian plaster finish for contrast, and lighting being placed to hold the whole space together as it comes in.

Two pieces of stone, cut to read as one.

That’s the book-matching effect on this island bench, the first decision made for this Brookwater home and the one every other material choice followed. Getting the pattern to meet cleanly at the join was the most demanding part of the build, done in close coordination with the stonemason.

From there, the bench’s green, black and grey tones carried through the rest of the cabinetry, including a black kitchen finish chosen for being fingerprintless as much as for its colour.

This one confirmed something for us: the studio can run a large-scale commercial fit-out and a considered residential build with the same rigour, because the job either way is the same, understand what the client’s actually after, then build it.

First look at the CALI.

Levi walks us through where things stand. Flooring’s going in straight after painting to protect the program, tiling’s done, and cabinetry is being delivered, with the finer details and finishes still to come.
