In conjunction with a dodgy “brand new” diff centre, that was recorded to be fitted by another shop 65,000kms prior, we found some concerning things to look out for when purchasing sold as “new” or “exchange” differentials.

This particular trucks time was up with excess wear on the spindle journals, creating a need for incorrect bearing adjustment to compensate for clearance elsewhere, something quite commonly seen when approaching the 1,500,000 kms.

A brand new housing, differential & axles were fitted as an honest, reliable outcome.

The real test isn't the dyno.

Any bloke can tune a rig to make a big number for 15 seconds in a controlled room with massive fans on it.

But that doesn't mean a thing when you're stuck in stop-start traffic, pulling a heavy van up a massive hill on a 40-degree day.

The road is the actual test.

If your tune and your transmission logic fall apart the second you put real-world load on them, the setup is useless.
