Thor's Hammer Recycled Australian Hardwood - Furniture, Joinery, Timber Beams, Floor Boards We design and make furniture and architectural products from recycled timbers.

Thor's Hammer is a joinery, sawmill and recycled timber yard based at 10 Mildura St, Griffith (ACT). Thor’s Hammer builds to last, we believe in quality, in good design and taking care of the environment. Thor's Hammer has been operating for nearly 30 years and holds over 1,000 tonnes of recycled timber stock in 10+ species.

This frame was crafted from our Canberra local Ash, made to fit a pane of glass salvaged from a damaged plastic frame and professionally fitted at a local art store. It now beautifully displays a screen-printed work by Peter Drew. The offcuts from this project are even being turned into frames for canvas artworks! Nothing goes to waste!

Thor’s Hammer wins Best Use of Recycled Timber

We’re thrilled to share that Thor’s Hammer won Best Use of Recycled Timber at the 2026 Australian Timber Design Awards for our Aesop Canberra Centre store fitout!

Working with the Aesop design team, we used recycled Bluegum / Coastal Reds throughout the store, from the brick-pattern parquetry flooring to the timber cladding that flows up the walls and across the ceiling.

A big thank you to for the collaboration, for laying the parquetry panels, and Emac Constructions for building the fitout. Great projects take a team, and we’re proud to see this one recognised.

Our workshop doors are opening again for the Craft + Design Canberra Festival Open Studios program! Tickets are going fast for our free workshop tours, but spots are still available for our second and third tours at 11:45am and 12:30pm!

Join us on Saturday 7th November 2026 for a behind-the-scenes look at where we salvage, process and transform recycled timber into flooring, furniture, doors, shelving and more. Get a closer look at the machinery, craftsmanship and processes you don’t usually get to see from the showroom.

One of our customers has shared these beautiful projects made from timbers purchased from us over the past 12 months: a musical jewellery box crafted from Ironwood, and two jewellery boxes made using Jarrah and Teak salvaged from CSIRO workbenches.

The Teak holds a particularly special connection, as our customer’s daughter worked at these very benches while completing her PhD.

Thor is excited to have been invited to speak on a panel at the Clothing the Loop: Circular Design Festival!

Alongside other design industry professionals, the panellists will explore circular design in architecture and interiors, including the innovations, technologies and creative approaches shaping the future of design practice.

We’re pleased to be hosting the 2026 CAPO Art Exhibition and Auction here at Thor’s Hammer in Griffith.

From Monday 26 October, our Gallery will be filled with works by emerging and established Canberra artists, with the exhibition running for three weeks before culminating in the CAPO Auction on Saturday 14 November.

Created for Floriade, these custom knife and fork benches by Thor’s Hammer brought a playful touch to this year’s festival.

Combining recycled Indonesian Ulin timber with custom powder-coated steel bases, the benches were designed to withstand busy public spaces while being easily relocated for future use.

We’re opening the doors to our workshop again this year as part of the Craft + Design Canberra Festival Open Studios program. Join us on Saturday 7th November 2026, for a behind-the-scenes look at where we salvage, process and transform recycled timber into flooring, furniture, doors, shelving and more. It’s a chance to see some of the machinery and processes that you don’t normally get to see from the showroom.

Not sure what size post or beam you need? We keep a range of common sizes in stock, from substantial 300 x 300mm recycled timbers through to smaller 100 x 100mm sections. Depending on the timber, we can supply posts and beams old sawn, resawn, dressed, ground and brushed, or wire brushed to achieve different looks and finishes.
