Go Lulu! 🏄♀️🎉😃
The Kids Are Alright! An outtake from the 6-page article on the Noosa Fest 2026 in the current Issue 126:
Finishing one and two in the Womens Logger Pro - on the inside is 14-year-old runner-up Luana Matthies from the Gold Coast, and out the back is the 20-year-old winner Sophia Culhane. A Waikiki local, Sophia finished second in this division back in 2020 when she was just 14. Pic: Al Morrison

A few shots and videos from today's May club round. We only got to run one round but there were some nice waves had while they lasted!

Hi BLC Members and Friends,
We had a really good day for our annual ANZAC Day Dawn surface comp last Sunday. The surf was big and challenging but at least clean and offshore winds. Congratulations to all those competitors that braved the conditions to compete in the changed format, there was some great surfing on show in all the heats and finals.
Thankyou also to all competitors that braved the rain and hang out for the day.
A big shout out to Nylah and Danny for capturing the day with some awesome photos of the action. Danny’s photos have been posted on our BLC page and below is the link to the photos Nylah took.

Just wanted to thank Jason for the great ANZAC shirts, Pimmy and Jason for helping me judge all the heats, Adrian, George and Scotty for BBQ duty, Dave (Diverse) for our Board Raffel which was won by Pete Wick and Sideways for our other great giveaways. Also big shout out to all the committee for their help and support to get the comp going and run on the day in difficult circumstances.
I want to finally acknowledge and congratulate our Opens winner for the day, the first female to win the ANZAC Dawn Surface in its long 35 year history with an epic win and also the single highest scoring wave of the day – Lulu Matthies! What an amazing performance and a well deserved victory that you fought out going wave for wave with second place getter Cade Vigors and third place getter Hosea Matthies.
Results from the day:
Opens
1st Lulu Matthies
2nd Cade Vigors
3rd Hosea Matthies
4th Perri ( BLC Vice Pres)
5th Digby Tidey
6th Peter Wickham
Over 40’s
1st Blair Abernethy
2nd Ron Timmothy (BLC Life Member)
3rd Duncan Corbet
4th Dave Mobberly
5th Dean Ripley
6th Mick Taiit
7th Danny O’Brien
Over 60’s – Cancelled due to conditions

Our next BLC club round will be held on the third Sunday of May on the 17th. This is due to Mother’s Day falling on the Sunday before.
See you all soon,
Nik

Hi BLC Members, Friends and ANZAC Day Dawn Surface competitors,
Just letting you know that the contest director and committee have moved the comp venue due to conditions to in front of the Burleigh Hotel about 100 m south of our original spot at 1st Ave. Looks a lot better banks and should be really fun waves. We will judge off the platform and set up in front of the surf rescue where the shelter, BBQ and hot water are located.
See you there.
Cheers,
Nik

Hi members just a shout out to all about the Lennox Longboarders One Dayer on Saturday May 2nd. The guys are a bit low on numbers for the Event, with all Divisions struggling.
Jump on their web page and have a look.
It'd be a good hit out after our Anzac Day Comp which it's hoped everyone has entered.
Thanks all

Congrats to Luana and Nylah Matthies for taking out their respective Divisions at the Women's Comp at Noosa over the week end.
Awesome effort. I believe a few other Burleigh Crew competed, but not sure who sorry.
Well done to all 🤟

Some of the action from the 2025 President's Cup today, which included a rescue of a Mum and her two kids from a rip during our first heat of the day. The planets aligned for this woman and her kids because,
(a) if we hadn't changed the venue for our comp;
(b) if we'd actually canned the comp as we were originally considering because of very average surf; and,
(c) Blair, Hosea and Mick weren't on the ball and willing and able to rescue them, they'd all be sad statistics by now.
Huge congrats to those lads! They're literally lifesavers - heroes one and all! The lady was especially lucky because she was cooked and about to go under when Blair got to her to save her.
There will be much retelling of this story tonight! For those who've paid and booked their spot, see you from around 5.30pm at the Burleigh Surf Lifesaving Club for the 2025 BLC Christmas Party and Presentation. President Nik reckons it could be the best night of your life! 😲😄
