Tonk Lures were first made in the mid 1990's by Rob Dunn, primarily targeting native fish species. The original lures were moulded in urethane with microspheres used for buoyancy. For a number of years they were not made, until Ted Sartori from Esoteric Lures made some hand carved timber versions in limited numbers. Since 2014 Tonk Lures are again made by Rob Dunn, most recently utilising CAD insp

Family day with my son, grandson and son in law on Hinze Dam. Couldn't find the bass or bait schools anywhere - ended up with 8-10 little ones by running shallow Mini Tonks on the downriggers, 5' above a 45' bottom - the flat lines didn't get a touch 🤔🤷‍♀️

Anyway, Ford and Nick who are on holidays from the USA, were stoked to catch their first ever Aussie Bass and we all managed to get off the water before the heat of day set in 🐟😀👍

Back from awesome trips to Awoonga and Mondy - instead of boring you with metery after metery pics, check out the weapons that did all the damage, 150mm Tonks in medium deep and lazy bones configurations 😅

The ABT Team were all over Awoonga for the week, so we had some fun pretending we were casters not trollers for a couple of the nights and fantasy matched ourselves against the result table. The 150mm Tonk in the medium depth bib cast from 18' deep water to w**d edges really performed and would have placed us mid table, our best went 109cm .... we were pretty stoked with that and I could honestly say I never cast a plastic once 🤣👍

Can't wait to get back up north in the New Year - now need to get some more Tonks made to replace those that the Barra have retired for good 🐟😅👍

Couple of Tonked Barra from Monduran last night .... Ethan Foster and his decky were casting the medium-deep UV 150mm Tonk Minnows to great effect 😃👍

Some of the half a dozen that crossed paths with the Tonks last night 🐟😅👍

Sometimes you need a jolt - Evan Speer from Lake Awoonga Barra Charters called and said mate, we need Lazy Bones now 😳🫡

Me, still puddling around with Cod lures after seasons close, started thinking - it's only a fortnight till we're all at Mondy, following that Awoonga, so decided to pull my finger out just in time 🙄

If last seasons Tonk Lazy Bones Barra captures are anything to judge by, there is many a metery sweating it out now 🐟🤣

Yes, I'm biased, because Evan uses the Lazy Bones with his Clients. If you're ever at Awoonga, do yourself a favour and utilise Evans amazing guiding services and you may just find that he's got you hooked up using a 150mm or 200mm Lazy Bones 🐟🤗👍

Some shameless promotion - if your a bass fisho, some of Paul Kneller's new timber bass vibes arrived today and they look like an awesome lure .... great size & colours, cannot wait to get them out to Hinze 🐟

Not sure if there are many left, but they are seriously worth checking out at:

Mate, well done 😅👍

Yep, I missed the winter call and Cod is not my expertise, but after a trip to Copeton and another to Pindari I had enough booofs, misses and heart pumping moments on the pair of proto's to head back home and fine tune this 200mm jointed Tonk wakebait .... here it is ready to go 🤣😎👍

Now, it's bloody Barra time and I'm distracted again - probably time I started making a few more of these wakebaits in 150mm and 200mm in readines for next years winter .... let's hope I'll be ready for 2026 with vengeance 🤣😳👍

Suspending 125mm Tonk Cray, something new for scoping Barra at Mondy and Awoonga over the next couple of months 🫣👍

Weighted and action to work down deep, stop, suspend, twitch, stop, suspend, twitch - if you get it, you understand the ambition 😎

Simple colours, some UV, 100% mica powders 😋

Nothing like a cricket score Father's Day on Hinze, with the bass playing the game on the Tonks 🐟😁👍

Easily landed 70-80 on the troll, all on the downriggers and 40-50' down - mostly on shallow Mini Tonks and smaller Micro Tonks, few illustrative pics to get a feel .... biggest went 43cm 😃

Thanks Andrew Dunn 🥰

Challenged ourselves to Livescope Troll Awoonga when the flatlines were not being as productive as normal 😁

Nothing better than spending a few days away with Andrew Dunn, armed with our Garmin livescope which Matthew Mott kindly tuned like no other, and with some awesome knowledge from Evan Speer of Lake Awoonga Barra Charters .... we had an absolute ball 🐟😃👍

I might just take these 150mm Tonk Lazy Bones to Awoonga next week .... the gold, white and black pearl mica powder blend, just seems to be gold up there 🤷‍♂️😳😎

More Tonk playing with the grain 150mm Lazy Bones about to be bibbed .... was going to take to Awoonga for a swim, but there seems to be some interest in them as quazi nudes 🤔🤷‍♂️👍
