What a night for the Sweep crew at the Marine Industry Awards Gala Dinner on Tuesday. 🥂⚓️

It was an amazing evening and a great chance to be in a room full of people doing big things for the industry.

We didn’t take home the win this year, but Sweep Workboats was proud to place Top 3 alongside Norman R. Wright & Sons and Marine Structures - huge congrats to both, and a special shoutout to Norman R. Wright & Sons for taking the win! 👏

Below is the video we submitted for the awards, showcasing our “3 Ferries, 1 Year” project - a massive effort from the whole team, and one we’re seriously proud of.

Often imitated, matched by none 💪🏽

We’re still building encapsulations the industry tries to follow.

Another quality build completed in Cairns alongside our long-term scaffolding partner T&T Scaffolding.

UHP is quickly becoming the new normal across our sites - and for good reason.

More and more of our surface prep is now being done with Ultra High Pressure water jetting, helping minimise the environmental impact that comes with abrasive blasting, while also lifting turnaround. On recent scopes, we’ve seen delivery times improve by around 25% - cleaner prep, faster progress, and fewer moving parts when weather windows are tight.

With two WOMA Australia Pty Ltd units in rotation and support from Tooleys Waterblasting Pty Ltd from Cairns, the teams were able to push through a properly wet week and keep key projects tracking to schedule.

Job of the Week: a full clean of the ram pockets on a split hopper barge - tight access, heavy build-up, and plenty of time spent squeezed into the fun spots.

One of the projects keeping the Sweep Workboats team busy this month has been the refit of another Carnival Cruises lifeboat — the third one our team has completed for Carnival.

While lifeboats are smaller than a lot of the commercial vessels we work on, there’s still plenty involved in getting them cleaned up, repaired and looking the part again. This scope has included preparation and refinishing across the seating, brackets, internal walls, ceiling areas, bilges, fuel tank areas, battery boxes and engine room spaces, along with fibreglass repairs around the windows and other repair areas.

A good chunk of the job is in the prep work — cleaning, masking, repairs, sanding and working through each section properly before the final finish goes on.

Another solid refit moving through the shed, and a great example of the smaller but detailed commercial scopes our team continues to deliver.

We’re excited to share that both divisions of Sweep Marine Services have been selected as finalists in the 2026 Australian Marine Industry Awards!

Sweep Superyachts is once again a finalist for Superyacht Industry Service Provider of the Year, after being Highly Commended in the same category last year. This recognition reflects the specialised work our team delivers across the superyacht sector.

Sweep Workboats is also a finalist for Commercial Marine Project, Design or Manufacturer of the Year, acknowledging the scale, complexity and technical capability behind our commercial marine projects.

To have both sides of the business recognised at a national industry level is something we’re incredibly proud of.

A huge thank you to our team, clients, suppliers and industry partners for the continued support ⚓️

Sweep Superyachts has just wrapped up a big week of technical cleaning in one of the busiest superyacht marinas — from the water sheds right through to the Q and T sheds. With a high turnover of visiting vessels, the job list is only getting longer.

One task that’s often overlooked? Main engine exhaust cleaning. It’s usually forgotten until detailers are back each week billing for soot removal off those pristine, million-dollar paint jobs. But the impact goes beyond cosmetics — neglected exhaust systems can lead to reduced engine efficiency, increased back pressure, higher fuel consumption, corrosion buildup, turbocharger fouling, and even long-term engine damage.

We recently completed exhaust cleaning on Phoenix One ahead of a repower by ’aprix Marine — a job that had to be done before the new engines went in. With the right tools and experience, we get it done quickly and properly.

Another ongoing issue we’re seeing across Queensland is diesel bug contamination. With fuel prices where they are, it’s worth checking your tanks before it becomes a serious problem. Unfortunately for one recent client, it was already too late — the fuel had to be scrapped and the tanks fully cleaned.

Preventative maintenance saves time, money, and headaches.

Happy Sunday — stay ahead of it.

Plenty happening across the yards this week, with both Sweep divisions on the go!

Sweep Superyachts has been pushing ahead at The Boat Works Gold Coast with several vessels on the go. MY Legacy Explorer has been in for a range of works including cooling tower installation, full interior vessel protection, and black and grey tank pump out and clean - with more to come on the fresh water system. Phoenix One has also had a cooling tower installed, along with a black tank pump out completed. Impavida has wrapped up engine room pipework paint touch ups, followed by a detailed clean through the engine room and steering area. Over at Versace Marina, Amphitrite has had the final coat applied in the chain locker as part of the rust repair scope. And up at The Yard Brisbane, a new job is coming in for Iron Blonde, with stub pipe blasting and repairs scheduled.

Sweep Workboats continues to stay busy across multiple sites.
In Brisbane, new build MV Jaguar for Aus Ships is well underway on a full insulation package - Decidamp has been applied, and the team is now moving into sound and A30 structural fire protection insulation install. At Gold Coast City Marina & Shipyard, Alan M and Sea Lion are in the final stretch of their weeks-long refit scopes, with coatings and repairs across tanks, decks, voids and forepeaks nearly wrapped up ahead of departure next week. And at Harwood Marine, SL Targinnie has finished up with a final engine room clean, while Dredge David Allan continues progressing through its tank program, with forepeak and chain locker prep now well advanced as the team works towards paint.

Some of the most important work on a vessel happens in the spaces no one sees.

A lot of the most important work on a vessel happens in the spaces no one sees - and recently, confined space scopes have been a major part of the load across multiple yards.

Over at The Boat Works Gold Coast, the team has nearly completed fresh water tank spot repairs aboard MY Jemasa, working to a tight deadline with the vessel due to head back out again tomorrow. Meanwhile, up at The Yard Brisbane, Iron Blonde’s water tank refinishing has now been completed, with the crew moving straight into the black and grey tanks refinishing.

Down at Harwood Marine, the team is currently about one third of the way through tank cleaning aboard David Allan, working through fuel tanks, ballast tanks and forepeak tanks. Also at Harwood, SL Targinnie is underway with fresh water tank cleaning & spot repairs as works continue on site.

These are the kinds of jobs that demand more than just getting in and getting them done. Tight access, restricted movement, heat, ventilation and safety controls all come into play - and the team continues to push through these scopes with care, precision and the right process from start to finish.
