Our darling Nikolai Julian - as written by Mum Jaye

Niko was born on 4 November 2025. Shortly after birth, he suffered a brain injury and was diagnosed with moderate HIE. He also had hearing loss and faced many medical challenges throughout his short little life.

His 6 months were filled with hospital stays, appointments and more challenges than any baby should ever have to face. After a devastating battle with severe lung infections, our beautiful boy gained his angel wings on Mother's Day 2026 at just 6 months old.

After losing our Niko, we discovered he had an incredibly rare genetic immune condition called NEMO deficiency (IKBKG), which affects the body's ability to fight infections. His specific genetic variant is so rare that he is the first reported case in Australia and only the fifth reported case worldwide.

Despite everything he went through, Niko brought so much love into our lives. His favourite things were smiling at everyone he loved, holding onto your finger ever so tightly, watching Bluey and most importantly spending time with his big sister Sofia. 🤍

There are some little lives that remind us just how precious every moment truly is. Niko's story is one of extraordinary love, courage and a family who cherished every moment they had together.

Being entrusted to preserve the tiniest hands and feet during a family's most heartbreaking moments is something we at Impressionable Kids will never take for granted.

Our bereavement work is so much more than creating keepsakes. It's about preserving a connection. A little hand that once held so tightly onto someone's finger. Tiny feet that will forever have a place in their family's hearts. A beautiful reminder that they were here, they were loved, and they will never be forgotten.

During Baby Loss Awareness Week, we honour Nikolai and every precious baby whose life, no matter how brief, has left an everlasting imprint on the hearts of those who love them.

To Niko's family, and especially his beautiful big sister Sofia, we hope this keepsake brings you comfort in the years ahead and helps keep a little piece of your beautiful boy close, always.

How perfectly sweet is Averie's little open hand combined with a typical little newborn fist.

I'm so happy her mama chose to add on her namesake and the perfect colored floral addition.

One of my favourite parts of designing these pieces is helping families choose colour combinations that feel perfectly at home in their space while showcasing the tiny details they never want to forget.
