There's a lot more to creating a quality solid timber dining table than what you see on the surface.🌿

This stunning Blackbutt and black resin dining table is currently undergoing an important part of the construction process.
Precision-cut channels are machined into the underside of the tabletop, allowing steel reinforcement braces to be fitted. These braces help provide additional stability, minimise movement and help keep the tabletop straight over time.

It's all about the little details, careful craftsmanship and getting things right from the ground up.

Because a beautiful table should be built to last! ❤️

🍂 Nice little load of Australian red cedar logs dropped off at the yard today. Don’t get it very often.

In the 1800’s and 1900’s a lot of Australian cedar (Toonis ciliata) timber cutters faced increased risk of cancer from working with the timber.
The timber is prized for its beautiful grained wood. The cutters would rely on spotting the trees in dense rainforest by looking for its red and pinkish foliage in spring and by relying on local aboriginal guides to help them locate the tree. Their name for the tree was either Koolai or worimi depending on local language. The tree symbolises ‘the tree of life’ strength and protection as the indigenous tribes used it to make shields and other decorative items.
To the settlers the tree was known as red gold. 🍁💛

📢🎄Important announcement 🎄📢

It is with great sadness that we share some news with our wonderful customers.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, we have made the difficult decision to close our Christmas tree side of the business and will no longer be offering Christmas trees.

We know many of you have supported us over the years and made our trees part of your Christmas traditions, and we are incredibly grateful for every order, visit and kind word along the way. ❤️

While this chapter is coming to an end, we look forward to continuing to focus on our other products and the things we love creating for your homes, gardens and outdoor spaces.

Thank you for your understanding, kindness and continued support of our family-run business.
It truly means more to us than you know. 🌿

With gratitude,
The Woodpatch House & Garden Team 💖

🌿🪵 Massive Blackbutt going to be milled on the Peterson. 1000mm one end and 1200mm the other end. 🌿🪵

These pics show the process.

I tend to flip the log when I get near the pith on most trees and particularly Blackbutt you can get what we call mudguts a pipe of decayed timber that’s literally turned into dirt!!.
So by turning over at the centre of the log I can avoid the pith but also create a slab of 50 to 100mm or more thick, perfectly quarter sawn either side of the pith.

Finished 130mm x 880 x 1800 Blackbutt slabs
