Hi, I'm G, a prop maker/ replica artist based in Hobart Tasmania :)

05/05/2020

Long time, no post. I guess clearing the cobwebs and dust around here, I posted this to my personal social media:

"I'm Looking at doing a rebranding of G's Cosplay Prop Commissions, I'm considering a name change and revamping the page a bit, something I will be working on over time.

Now that I have a bit of a work space again and funnily enough, a fair bit of spare time, I'm gonna jump back into the saddle again. I'm aware the climate isn't great for those wanting prop commissions done but I'm expanding some of my operations.

Although I'm in the need for some inspiration, starting with a name change. If anyone has any suggestions, let me know."

I have a new workshop and a lot of things have changed since I last disappeared from here, namely moving in with my partner, getting our own place and going through the motions and now, like the rest of you, waiting on the everything to go back to normal. Which I figure its prime time to get back into making things again.

I hope people are staying safe and watch this space, sporadically I'll have some new updates on whats happening around here. :)

Well it's been a long time since I last posted, after the debacle of been given about 4 weeks to find a new place to live and also find a new workshop space, i have finally done so, at least temporarily.

Over the last 11 months, moving and working my day job as well as helping out with Of Dice and Men on the weekends things have been hectic, finally my day job has slowed down for the time being, which means I finally have time to breath.

A few good friends of mine, who had helped me putting a roof over my head for a few months have let me use their garage as a workspace, which I have now begun to reorganize.

But before I continue on with the good news, this isn't a permanent solution and space is quite limited which means commission jobs will be very limited and depending on size and complexity may get rejected.

But the good news is I am back in operation again, if you have something in mind to be commissioned, send me a message and I will see what I can do.

Cheers :)

So I have been a little silent for a while and I have some bad news, well not overly bad, but a bit of a set back. I have to move house again which now throws my schedule out the window. Which means I am not going to have access to a workshop for a while until I find another place.

But basically what this means is that I'll be on Hiatus until further notice, those who have contacted me for commission work, this is going to be delayed until about the end of September which I apologize in advance.

Its now the 1st of July, so you all know what that means, its time to draw the winners of the competition.

First up, from the random name draw: The Winner is Stephanie Wickham, Congratulations :D

Secondly and the most time consuming process of working out how to build any of the props posted it came down to a few choices, The Switch Axe from Monster Hunter, The Astrologian Weapon from FFXIV and Soul Calibur from Soul Caibur IV. (I know there were a few more impossible things in there but they didn't exactly classify as props)

Those three were the hardest to deal with in the sense I tried to put logic into how the build process would happen, trust me it was a frustrating few nights working out concepts. However I can only pick one. And the winner of that one is:

Jessica Gaye, the Astrologian weapon from FFXIV. The reason why this beat the other two was purely on the fact that its meant to float. It was also the only prop that was close enough to giving me a brain aneurysm trying to work out the logistics of it all.

Congratulations to the winners, I'll be getting in touch with you both in due time or if you want to drop me a message. And of course a big thank you to all those who participated in the competition, I am grateful for the support. Cheers :D

I kind of anticipated I might not be able to sell these at the Hobart Geek Market, they were well received but only had a few people recognise where they're actually from.

These are PVC and Wood construction, there are a number of metal parts that make up a lot of the details, they're convention friendly and have no moving parts. These are $65 each + Shipping.

If you have plans on making a Fallout inspired costume, or simply after a display piece, or the popular choice of putting it into a safe for someone to pick open 200+ years later, its a nice choice.

There are two with the "Sharpshooters" Pistol grip and one with the standard grip. Drop me a message if you're interested.

So, I just hit the 400 like mark, a while back when I hit 300 likes I said "There will be a surprise" or something along those lines, however I neglected that milestone due to reasons I cannot recall and honestly forgot about it until now. However I aim to fix that now since I have hit 400.

What I plan on doing is a competition, something I am probably going to regret, or payback for forgetting the 300 milestone. What I want to do is a competition, there will be TWO winners, one for the 300 milestone and one for the 400. What needs to happen is the following:

- Like this post
- Share the post
- In the comments I want you to find the worst possible prop to create in real life. Most people know I hate Kingdom Hearts weapons for their intricate details and quite frankly I hate making them. However I want you to find something worse, put a picture in with the comment and where its from.

I'll be picking the worst possible prop to make as the first winner. (Note: this isn't the actual prize)

And the second will be drawn randomly from the number of likes on this post.

What you both will win is something made by me, however this is to be kept secret, because originally I intended a surprise and I am aim to deliver.

This competition will last up until 1st of July, and at some point during the day of the 1st both winners will be drawn.

Now if you're wondering why there is a picture of a cat, this is my old "Workshop Assistant", that's her name it was actually my neighbours cat, I never knew her actual name. She used to keep me company hanging around my old workshop up until I moved, so with whatever she is up to now, this is in honour of her.

I got around to testing the mould for the Assassination Classroom Combat Knife, I'm kind of glad I stopped halfway with the mould construction and tested it before I made the other half as the Silicone rubber isn't as rigid as I anticipated it to be.

Although I have learned a few things with this:

- The Silicone and Corn Starch/Flour combo is pretty interesting to work with and takes the shape of the mould quite well.
- The elasticity and strength is quite durable, which now gives me more ideas to make other things from it.
- I can use it to make Moulds with, which makes prototyping small parts much easier than my old methods.
- The downsides is that its messy, it reeks of vinegar (100% Silicone is rather potent) and its a pain to get colour consistency right if I'm making something out it, as it can't be painted.

Overall I am going to keep testing the piece and see what else I can do with it, but for now the Combat Knife has been shelved until I get more experience with the material.

So I have a number of little projects coming along now, I had some time to kill waiting for parts to come in the mail, so while I was waiting I have three Fallout 4 Pipe Pistols in the works, I had a good friend of mine gave me some scrap timber that had some interesting wood grain which was perfect for this.

However the difficult part is the handle, I have used some 3mm Aluminium (or a Aluminum for my American friends) which is soft enough to cold bend, but it is a long and tedious process. Which now gave me the idea of changing up a few of the pieces, so there will be a standard Pipe Bolt Action pistol (The one pictured), a Pipe Semi-Automatic with a different grip and the last will be converted into a Pipe Machine Gun. These will be on sale at the Hobart Geek Market.

For those with a keen eye, the two 1911's that are drying is another little project, something I have wanted to do in a long time, however I wont reveal what it is just yet I am doing with them.

Its been a while, there's been a fair bit of downtime on the commission side of things as of late, however while being idle I've been running a few experiments on different materials, researching new materials as well as teaching myself Inkscape, which is a nice time filler due to Winter rapidly approaching.

Sadly a number of these experiments weren't anything that was really worth posting the results of, due to complications (read: failures)

However, I am currently now working on a few small props or rather novelty items for an event coming up in Hobart, the Hobart Geek Market and first on that list is the Assassination Classroom Combat Knife, what makes this thing special is that I have found an interesting recipe for making rubber like materials, given that in the anime they're equipped with these rubber knives I felt that it would be the perfect test this new recipe out.

I'll have a whole bunch of other items for sale, however if you're local to Hobart, you should come and check it out:

As per my previous post on cross promotion, this is the artist responsible for some of the artwork for Of Dice and Men which she has done a fantastic job, She has only recently started up her page The Mushroomancer so feel free to go and check out some of her other work.

The Mushroomancer I love mushrooms! XD I'll be doing, art, illustration, pop culture conventions, original art, fanart, cosplay, fashion, craft, comics, anime, rp games +

So while I am doing the cross promotion thing, I have a couple more people to help promote since they've helped with Of Dice and Men so first up is Alec Shea - Composition/Sound Design/Voiceover is a friend of mine who has started his own business in sound design and recently started his kickstarter campaign, if you're working on an animation, film or game that requires high quality sound design, seriously go and check him out.

Alec Shea - Music / Sound Design / Voice Acting Composer, sound designer and voice actor specialising in games and anime!

So some interesting news, I have teamed up with a good friend of mine supporting his local business Of Dice and Men running Dungeons and Dragons 3.5 edition as a Game Master for hire, we have found that a lot of people are interested in playing the game but have no one to run it, this is where we come in, I am now another Game Master supporting his endeavors to meet demands.

Now, you're probably wondering, how this affects my own commission business. Well not a lot will change, however you may see some experiments happen over time with some of the things I'll be building, if you haven't guessed they'll be D&D themed.

If they're successful and I can reliably produce products for table top games, they'll obviously be available to be commissioned as custom items. As of now those items are kept secret until I am satisfied that they will suitable for purchase.

Now I know where my roots are, this wont affect commissions since they'll be taking priority over this, this is more of a side venture that when I have spare time play with some prototypes and if you like what you see, I can produce more.

Of Dice and Men is a Local business in Hobart, I do apologise to my interstate and international customers that this kind of only applies to locals, however feel free to head on over to his page to see what its all about and if D&D is your thing consider dropping him a message about organising a group and of course in the near future keep and eye out here for some D&D themed items.
